How many species of host-specific insects feed on a species of tropical tree?
TL;DR: It is concluded that studies reporting the proportion of specialist insect herbivores associated with particular tropical tree species will yield only a portion of the information needed to estimate global arthropod species richness, but may be useful for elucidating certain aspects of food-web ecology in tropical rain forests.

Patterns of beetle species diversity in New Guinea rain forest as revealed by canopy fogging: preliminary findings
Allen Allison,G. A. Samuelson,Scott E. Miller +2 more
- 01 Jan 1993
TL;DR: Canopy fogging with a pyrethrum-based insecticide was used in a comparative study of the structure and diversity of insect communities in two genera of oak trees at study sites of 500, 1200-1400 and 2000-2200 m elevation along a transect through primary rain forest in Papua New Guinea.

Similarities and Contrasts in the Local Insect Faunas Associated with Ten Forest Tree Species of New Guinea
Yves Basset,G. A. Samuelson,Scott E. Miller +2 more
- 01 Apr 1996
TL;DR: Insect faunas associated with 10 tree species growing in a submontane area in Papua New Guinea are described and compared and it is recommended that number of individuals be used in analyses of this type, particularly when the association of insects with their putative host has not been ascertained.

Host use by chrysomelid beetles feeding on Moraceae and Euphorbiaceae in New Guinea
Vojtech Novotny,Yves Basset,G. A. Samuelson,Scott E. Miller +3 more
- 01 Jan 1999
TL;DR: The patterns of host use by Eumolpinae and Galerucinae appear to be shifted towards oligophagy, in comparison with most of other subfamilies, feeding on Temperate herbs.
