Impact of globalization, economic factors and energy consumption on CO2 emissions in Pakistan

This paper investigates the causality among economic growth, renewable energy consumption, capital and labor for new EU member countries for the period of 1990–2009, by using asymmetric causality test approach and autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach. The empirical results support that renewable energy consumption has positive impacts on economic growth for all investigated countries. But only for Bulgaria, Estonia, Poland, and Slovenia there is statistically significant impact on economic growth has found. And also supports neutrality hypothesis for Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia while the conservation hypothesis is present for Czech Republic. The fact that there is a causal relationship from economic growth to renewable energy consumption and the growth hypothesis is supported for Bulgaria, referring to causality from energy consumption to economic growth.

Nuclear energy consumption and economic growth in OECD countries: Cross-sectionally dependent heterogeneous panel causality analysis

The aim of study examines the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis in Turkey between the years of 1960 and 2010. The relationship among variables were researched by ARDL bound test and Granger causality analysis. As the result of analysis it is stated that the EKC hypothesis is valid for Turkey and especially energy consumption (EC), financial development (FD) and openness (OP) have an increasing effect on CO2 emission. As a result of causality test, unidirectional causality from FD to CO2 emission, EC and EG have been found in short term. Findings which confirm the feed-back hypothesis between CO2 emission and EC, CO2 emisson and EG, CO2 emission and FD variables have been obtained in long term.

After Industrial Revolution, importance of energy in production has increased. As a result of two petroleum crisis, energy was included directly into the production function. While development level of countries has increased, energy consumption has also raised. Substantial increase in energy consumption with economic growth provide a motivation to investigate questions “Is there is a relationship between energy consumption and economic growth?” and if there is “What kind of relationship exists between them?”. The aim of this study is to analyse dynamic causal relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth in the Romanian economy for the period of 2001 – 2010 to answer this question. To this end, we utilize the Dolado – Lutkepohl, Tado - Yamamoto and traditional Granger causality tests. In this regard, we use Phillips – Perron and Dickey Fuller – GLS unit root tests and Bai – Perron multiple structural breaks test. Results support that causality runs from electricity consumption to economic growth in the case of Romania economy.

Causality Relationship between Real GDP and Electricity Consumption in Romania (2001-2010)

In this study, the validity was analyzed of the triple deficit hypothesis in Turkey between the years 1960 and 2012. First, the stationarity of positive and negative shocks related to the current account deficit, budget deficit, and savings gap was tested. As a result of unit root tests, it was concluded that all the positive and negative shocks were I(1). Then, the causal relationship was analyzed with regard to the aforesaid shocks of variables by means of an asymmetric causality test. As a result of the asymmetric causality test, bi-directional causality was found between the current account deficit and the budget deficit and between the current account deficit and savings gap. Therefore, it can be concluded that the triple deficit hypothesis is valid in Turkey .

Testing the Validity of the Triplet Deficit Hypothesis for Turkey: Asymmetric Causality Analysis

The purpose of this study is to determine the validity of the triplet deficit hypothesis, which means the savings gap and budget deficit effect on the current account deficit. The empirical model is estimated for the G7 countries during the period between 1994 and 2011. The findings show that budget deficit and savings gap have important role in current account deficit in terms of estimator results. Moreover, bi-directional causality between the current account deficit and the savings gap and between the budget deficit and the savings gap are determined. So, especially the savings gap has an important effect on the current account deficit and the budget deficit. That is, triplet deficit hypothesis is valid in G7. Moreover, traditional approach is also valid since the causality is found between the current account deficit and budget deficit. Thereby, the authors conclude that the choice of statistical tools in analysing the nature of relationship among the current account deficit, the budget deficit, and the savings gap may play a key role for policy makers.
