According to the present invention there is provided a body coated with refractory single- or multilayers, wherein specific layers are characterized by a controlled microstructure and phase composition with crystal planes preferably grown in a preferential direction with respect to the surface of the coated body. Said coating comprises one or several refractory layers of which at least one layer is a dense, fine-grained layer of α-Al2O3 textured in the (104) direction. The Al2O3-coating is obtained by control of the oxidation potential of the CVD-reactor atmosphere prior to the nucleation of Al2O3, which is initiated by a controlled sequencing of the reactant gases. During the growth of the Al2O3 a sulphur dopant is added, preferably H2S. The coated tool according to the invention exhibits excellent surface finish and shows much improved wear and toughness properties compared to prior art objects when used for machining steel, cast iron and, particularly, when machining nodular cast iron.

A method and apparatus enables linered label applicators to use labels on thin liners. Linered labels comprise a composite of an elongate sheet of thin or light-weight temporary liner having a precut label adhered to a low adhesion surface. The cut-out labels on the liner are fed into the linered label applicator. The use of support mechanisms other then vacuum application on rollers enables the use of thinner liner sheets on labels. A die head for cutting or perforating labels comprising adhesive on label stock comprising a die head having at least 80% of its outer surface comprising flat areas between cutting edges, multiple cutting edges on the outer surface, and an internal volume in the die head, the internal volume for carrying coolant liquid into and out of the volume so as to cool the outer surface of the die head when the coolant temperature is at least 10° C. cooler than the outer surface of the die head.

Apparatus and method for applying labels

A clear multilayer film for coating synthetic environmental surfaces includes an exposed protective layer and an underlying cushioning layer. The exposed layer is primarily a polymer blend of a fluorine substituted olefin polymer, such as polyvinylidene fluoride, with an acrylic polymer. The cushioning layer is of a low modulus polymer selected from among impact modified acrylic polymer, ethylene vinyl acetate polymer and metallocene catalyzed polyethylene and having an elastic modulus below about 30,000 psi (207 MPa). The cushioning layer should be substantially free of all fluorinated polymers. The multilayer film can have an optional additional thermally adhesive layer of a blend of a fluorine substituted olefin polymer with an acrylic polymer. The multi layer film offers superior protection to such substrates as outdoor building siding, vehicle body panels, and signs from stains, weather conditions, and especially impact damage. Ally of the layers can also include fillers and additives adapted to provide a very low gloss appearance.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a release liner capable of smoothly releasing a release layer from a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer without using a silicone-based releasing agent in the release layer. SOLUTION: The release liner includes a release layer constituted of a polyolefin resin, wherein the release layer has surface irregularities. The surface irregularities of the release layer may be constituted of recesses and protrusions which are irregularly different in shape and have been disposed in irregular arrangement. The release layer preferably has a surface roughness Ra of 1-3 μm. As the polyolefin resin constituting the release layer, at least one polyolefin resin selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene, poly(4-methyl-1-pentene), and copolymers of ethylene with a 3-10Cα-olefin can be used. A silicone-free release film comprises a linear ethylenic polymer having a density from 0.865 to 0.900 g/cc and an index of polydispersity of less than 5.0 and yields a maximum release force value of 39 g/cm at a film thickness of 0.10 to 0.15 mm in an adhesive peel test. The film is useful in manufacturing rolls and sheets of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape.
