Cranial tibial wedge osteotomy, surgical technique for cranial cruciate ligament rupture, was performed on 19 stifles in dogs. This procedure leveled the tibial plateau, thus causing weight-bearing forces to be compressive and eliminating cranial tibial thrust. Without cranial tibial thrust, which was antagonistic to the cranial cruciate ligament and its surgical reconstruction, cruciate ligament repairs were allowed to heal without constant loads. This technique was meant to be used as an adjunct to other cranial cruciate ligament repair techniques.

La rupture du ligament croise crânial est un sujet relativement documente dans la litterature aussi bien en medecine humaine qu'en medecine veterinaire du fait de la frequence importante de cette affection dans les deux especes. Longtemps ce qui etait considere comme vrai chez l'homme etait transpose chez l'animal d'ou l'origine des premieres techniques chirurgicales. Apres des travaux celebres concernant l'anatomie et la physiologie du genou chez le chien, des differences primordiales ont ete mise en evidence, laissant supposer que cette articulation ne fonctionnait pas de la meme facon chez les deux especes. Une modelisation du grasset a alors ete imaginee. Cependant certaines interrogations subsistaient notament en ce qui concerne l'etiopahogenie de cette affection et les echecs chirurgicaux observes. Certains auteurs ont alors etudie le genou dans son contexte fonctionnel s'interressant a la biomecanique de l'articulation dans leurs travaux et ouvrant ainsi un nouvel univers de recherche riche en informations qui a aboutit au developpement de nouvelles techniques chirurgicales.
