Many empirical software engineering studies show that there is a need for repositories where source codes are acquired, filtered and classified. During the last few years, Ethereum block explorer services have emerged as a popular project to explore and search for Ethereum blockchain data such as transactions, addresses, tokens, smart contracts’ source codes, prices and other activities taking place on the Ethereum blockchain. Despite the availability of this kind of service, retrieving specific information useful to empirical software engineering studies, such as the study of smart contracts’ software metrics, might require many subtasks, such as searching for specific transactions in a block, parsing files in HTML format, and filtering the smart contracts to remove duplicated code or unused smart contracts. In this paper, we afford this problem by creating Smart Corpus, a corpus of smart contracts in an organized, reasoned and up-to-date repository where Solidity source code and other metadata about Ethereum smart contracts can easily and systematically be retrieved. We present Smart Corpus’s design and its initial implementation, and we show how the data set of smart contracts’ source codes in a variety of programming languages can be queried and processed to get useful information on smart contracts and their software metrics. Smart Corpus aims to create a smart-contract repository where smart-contract data (source code, application binary interface (ABI) and byte code) are freely and immediately available and are classified based on the main software metrics identified in the scientific literature. Smart contracts’ source codes have been validated by EtherScan, and each contract comes with its own associated software metrics as computed by the freely available software PASO. Moreover, Smart Corpus can be easily extended as the number of new smart contracts increases day by day.

Blockchain search engine: Its current research status and future prospect in Internet of Things network

The control, governance, and management of the web have become increasingly centralised, resulting in security, privacy, and censorship concerns. Decentralised initiatives have emerged to address these issues, beginning with decentralised file systems. These systems have gained popularity, with major platforms serving millions of content requests daily. Complementing the file systems are decentralised search engines and name-registry infrastructures, together forming the basis of a decentralised web . This survey article analyses research trends and emerging technologies for content retrieval on the decentralised web, encompassing both academic literature and industrial projects. Several challenges hinder the realisation of a fully decentralised web. Achieving comparable performance to centralised systems without compromising decentralisation is a key challenge. Hybrid infrastructures, blending centralised components with verifiability mechanisms, show promise to improve decentralised initiatives. While decentralised file systems have seen more mature deployments, they still face challenges such as usability, performance, privacy, and content moderation. Integrating these systems with decentralised name-registries offers a potential for improved usability with human-readable and persistent names for content. Further research is needed to address security concerns in decentralised name-registries and enhance governance and crypto-economic incentive mechanisms. 

A Survey on Content Retrieval on the Decentralised Web

: With the advent of blockchain technology, many interorganisational collaborative processes that demand trust requirements (e.g., food supply chain, smart grid energy distribution and clinical trials) are being implemented as decentralised applications (DApps). Indeed, blockchain technology provides decentralised control and immutable transaction history, thereby improving security and accountability between parties. In this vision paper, we consider cooperative processes where a subject, which acts as a regulator of the process, promotes the use of blockchain for increasing transparency, while reducing the burden in controlling trustworthiness among participants. To the scope, the regulator provides a registry of basic smart contracts, including both actual deployed ones and code templates, that can be used and extended by the process stakeholders (e.g., retailers, energy providers, researchers) to build up DApps. The adoption of a blockchain and the definition of the registry favour the compliance with best practices and obligations demanded by the regulator, as well as that all relevant information and documents cannot be tampered. To support semantic-based smart contract search in the registry, we propose a multi-perspective framework that, in addition to classification and technical characteristics of smart contracts, takes into account the past experience of developers who have used smart contracts of the registry to develop DApps.

A Multi-Perspective Framework for Smart Contract Search in Decentralised Applications Design

Recently blockchain technology has attracted increasing attention. It provides a distributed peer-to-peer network. It also allows to enlarge the contracting space using smart contracts. Smart contract is a numeric protocol which define a promises between parties. In a blockchain platform, we can find millions of smart contracts which are created by different users (developers). The smarts contracts created by users and saved in a blockchain can be similar in functionality, even if different users use different wording. This paper presents a new search engine in the blockchain. The novelty of our search engine is to help users to checks their smart contracts by referencing some similar existing smart contracts created and saved in a blockchain platform. Our search engine allows to give each user an adaptive set of similar smart-contracts based on the user's similarity needs. Our search engine is developed in the Ethereum blockchain platform. Experiments demonstrate the potential of our search engine system under different scenarios.
