Predation on Atlantic Salmon Smolts by Striped Bass after Dam Passage
TL;DR: A focused investigation of striped bass predation on smolts after passage of the Essex Dam began in 1998 and included both individuals of stocked-fry and stocked-smolt origin.
Temperate freshwater soundscapes: A cacophony of undescribed biological sounds now threatened by anthropogenic noise.
TL;DR: Poor understanding of the biophony of freshwater ecosystems, together with an apparent high temporal exposure to anthropogenic noise across all habitats, suggest a critical need for studies aimed at identification of biophonic sound sources and assessment of potential threats from anthropogenic noises.
Procedures for efficiently producing high-quality fecundity data on a small budget
Nikolai Klibansky,Francis Juanes +1 more
TL;DR: Procedures for efficiently producing precise, accurate, fecundity estimates for highly fecund Atlantic cod, using a low-cost laboratory setup are described, finding estimates produced by both methods to be highly correlated.

Photopigment spectral absorbance of Lake Malawi cichlids
TL;DR: To predict spectral sensitivity, microspectrophotometry was used to measure absorbance of photoreceptor cells from 15 species of Lake Malaŵi cichlids, finding that UV-sensitive pigments were common, but spectral sensitivity did not clearly correlate with feeding mode or habitat.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted semi-structured interviews with fishers in three different villages surrounding the Cienaga Grande de Santa Marta, the most important lagoon system in the Colombian Caribbean because of its size and productivity.
