JC virus load in cerebrospinal fluid and transcriptional control region rearrangements may predict the clinical course of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
Serena Delbue,Francesca Elia,Camilla Carloni,Eleonora Tavazzi,Enrico Marchioni,Silvia Carluccio,Lucia Signorini,Stefano Novati,Renato Maserati,Pasquale Ferrante +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the JCV load in the CSF and the organization of the TCR should be considered as indicators of PML clinical outcome.
First identification and molecular characterization of lymphotropic polyomavirus in peripheral blood from patients with leukoencephalopathies.
Serena Delbue,Sara Tremolada,Emanuela Branchetti,Francesca Elia,Elisa Gualco,Enrico Marchioni,Renato Maserati,Pasquale Ferrante +7 more
TL;DR: In cell cultures, LPV has a highly restricted host range for both human and monkey B lymphoblasts, and seroepidemiological studies revealed that, in addition to sera from monkeys, many human sera had strong reactions in the presence of LPV antigens.

Lymphotropic Polyomavirus is detected in peripheral blood from immunocompromised and healthy subjects.
Serena Delbue,Sara Tremolada,Francesca Elia,Camilla Carloni,Serena Amico,Eleonora Tavazzi,Enrico Marchioni,Stefano Novati,Renato Maserati,Pasquale Ferrante,Pasquale Ferrante +10 more
TL;DR: The amplification of LPV genome from human peripheral blood confirms the fact that LPV can infect the human population and supports the hypothesis of an association between LPV infection and any neurological disease.

JC virus urinary excretion and seroprevalence in natalizumab-treated multiple sclerosis patients
Serena Delbue,Francesca Elia,Camilla Carloni,Valentina Pecchenini,Diego Franciotta,Matteo Gastaldi,Elena Colombo,Lucia Signorini,Silvia Carluccio,Anna Bellizzi,Roberto Bergamaschi,Pasquale Ferrante +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicated that natalizumab therapy may increase the rate of J CV urinary shedding, and it was confirmed that the identification of JCV carriers cannot solely rely on serological tests, but sensitive methods for viral DNA detection should be adopted to more precisely identify the truly JCV uninfected cases.

Polymorphisms of the bk virus subtypes and their influence on viral in vitro growth efficiency
Sara Tremolada,Serena Delbue,Sara Larocca,Camilla Carloni,Francesca Elia,Kamel Khalili,Jennifer Gordon,Pasquale Ferrante,Pasquale Ferrante +8 more
TL;DR: This study infected the African Green Monkey kidney cell line Vero with four different viral strains that contained the nucleotide sequences of the BKV subtypes within the same genomic background and demonstrated that the non-synonymous nucleotide polymorphisms of subtype III confer a strong disadvantage for viral replication.
