all-Trans-Retinoic Acid Increases Nitric Oxide Synthesis by Endothelial Cells. A Role for the Induction of Dimethylarginine Dimethylaminohydrolase
Vinod Achan,Cam T.L. Tran,Francesca Arrigoni,Guy St. J. Whitley,James Leiper,Patrick Vallance +5 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that atRA increases NO synthesis in endothelial cells without increasing eNOS expression and suggests that the induction of NO synthesis by atRA may be facilitated by DDAH II, which may help to explain some of the effects of atRA on the cardiovascular system.

Metabolism of asymmetric dimethylarginines is regulated in the lung developmentally and with pulmonary hypertension induced by hypobaric hypoxia
TL;DR: The results indicate that each DDAH isoform is differentially regulated during both lung development and PPHN, and suppression of DDAhII isoform expression may be a mechanism underlying P PHN.
Endothelial injury and repair in systemic vasculitis of the young
L. A. Clarke,Ying Hong,Despina Eleftheriou,Vanita Shah,Francesca Arrigoni,Nigel Klein,Paul A. Brogan,Paul A. Brogan +7 more
TL;DR: Elevation of the levels of CECs, EMPS, EPCs, VEGF, and Ang-2 occurs during active vasculitis in children, and the levels declined with remission-inducing therapy in the individual patients.

Quantitative detection of circulating endothelial cells in vasculitis: comparison of flow cytometry and immunomagnetic bead extraction
LA Clarke,Vanita Shah,Francesca Arrigoni,D Eleftheriou,Ying Hong,Julian Halcox,Nigel Klein,Paul A. Brogan +7 more
TL;DR: There was poor agreement between EC‐optimized FC and IBE for the quantification of CECs from children with active vasculitis and controls, and the two techniques are not directly comparable when comparing results obtained using these different methodologies.

Extended extraocular phenotype of PROM1 mutation in kindreds with known autosomal dominant macular dystrophy.
Francesca Arrigoni,Mar Matarin,Pamela J. Thompson,Michel Michaelides,Michel Michaelides,Michelle E. McClements,E Redmond,LA Clarke,Elizabeth A Ellins,Saifullah Mohamed,Ian D. Pavord,Nigel Klein,David M. Hunt,Anthony T. Moore,Anthony T. Moore,Julian Halcox,Julian Halcox,Sanjay M. Sisodiya +17 more
TL;DR: It is found that aspects of endothelial function assayed ex vivo were abnormal in patients with the R373C PROM1 mutation, with impaired adhesion capacity and higher levels of cellular damage.
