Implementation of proton transfer reaction‐mass spectrometry (PTR‐MS) for advanced bioprocess monitoring
Markus Luchner,Rene Gutmann,Karl Bayer,Jürgen Dunkl,Armin Hansel,Jens Herbig,W Singer,Florian Strobl,Klaus Winkler,Gerald Striedner +9 more
TL;DR: The presented results clearly show that PTR‐MS was successfully implemented as a powerful bioprocess‐monitoring tool and that access to volatiles emitted by the cells opens promising perspectives in terms of advanced process control.

Accelerating HIV-1 VLP production using stable High Five insect cell pools.
Eduard Puente-Massaguer,Paula Grau-Garcia,Florian Strobl,Reingard Grabherr,Gerald Striedner,Martí Lecina,Francesc Gòdia +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that stable High Five cell pools are a robust and powerful approach to produce VLPs and other recombinant proteins, and put the basis for future studies aiming to scale up this system.

Online prediction of product titer and solubility of recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli fed‐batch cultivations
TL;DR: The application of advanced process monitoring concepts comprising recently established analytical targets and statistical modeling allows for real-time prediction of product related not directly accessible process variables and will strongly support the implementation of quality by design in biopharmaceutical production.

A microscale method of protein extraction from bacteria: Interaction of Escherichia coli with cationic microparticles
Alexandru Trefilov,Moritz Imendoerffer,Gerhard Sekot,Florian Strobl,Alois Jungbauer,Rainer Hahn +5 more
TL;DR: A simple, highly selective, efficient method for extracting recombinant proteins from Escherichia coli, and the selective adsorption and desorption of acidic molecules is built into the extraction method, and replaces the equally effective subsequent capture on anion exchange media.

Evaluation of screening platforms for virus-like particle production with the baculovirus expression vector system in insect cells.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that transferability of infection screening results from the HTP µ-bioreactor scale to the benchtop bioreactor was equal or better than that from shaker cultivation.
