Adaptive feedback selection for intelligent tutoring systems
Fernando Gutiérrez,John Atkinson +1 more
TL;DR: The approach suggested that combining SVM and CRF models are promising to get effective feedback correction from student tutoring, showing that the multi-strategy selection approach outperformed the traditional meta-linguistic rules based feedback strategies.

Autonomous Robotics Self-Localization Using Genetic Algorithms
Fernando Gutiérrez,John Atkinson +1 more
- 02 Nov 2009
TL;DR: A new approach for robotics self-location using constrained genetic algorithms is proposed that uses a location estimation stage based on Kalman filters so as to redefine the search space and finds the most accurate current position of a robot.

A Heterologous Viral Protein Scaffold for Chimeric Antigen Design: An Example PCV2 Virus Vaccine Candidate.
Emilio Lamazares,Fernando Gutiérrez,Angela Hidalgo,Nicolas A. Gutiérrez,Felipe I Espinoza,Oliberto Sánchez,Marcelo Cortez-San Martín,Carolina Mascayano,Javier González,Jose Miguel Saavedra,Claudia Altamirano,Manuel Mansur,A. Ruiz,Jorge R. Toledo +13 more
TL;DR: This work designed a chimeric antigen to assemble the main exposed epitopes of the Cap-PCV2 protein on the capsid protein of the tobacco necrosis virus (TNV) and elicited a strong and specific antibody response, which reduced the viral loads after the PCV2 challenge.

Optimizing a Waterflood Using a Combination of Machine Learning and Reservoir Physics. A Field Application for Reducing Fresh Water Injection with no Impact on Oil Production and Improved Carbon Intensity
Pallav Sarma,Javad Rafiee,Fernando Gutiérrez,C. Calad,Ryan Hilliard,Sebastian Plotno,E. Mamani,Oscar Angulo,Gabriel Quintero +8 more
- 21 Feb 2022
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors presented the application of a novel modeling and optimization technique in a mature waterflood environment, which was applied to a mature field in the Neuquen basin in Argentina to reduce the amount of water injected into the reservoir with no negative impact on the production.

Evolutionary constrained self-localization for autonomous agents
Fernando Gutiérrez,John Atkinson +1 more
- 01 Jun 2011
TL;DR: Experiments show the promise of the new model for robotic self-localization using constrained evolutionary computation techniques to predict the correct position in a robotic soccer field with a error margin better than other state-of-the-art techniques.
