Landscape engineering plays a crucial role in urban construction and the development of ecological civilization in China. It actively designs and modifies natural elements, such as water and mountains, acting as the primary living infrastructure. This field continually receives great recognition and praise. Recent academic research has prioritized the use of extended reality (XR) technology to create a real-time interactive visual environment to tackle the issues presented by the dynamic nature of landscape engineering. This paper utilizes the PRISMA method to filter out 68 research documents related to XR in landscape engineering construction and management for bibliometric analysis. A comprehensive review is conducted on the precise and efficient utilization of XR to solve various issues in the field of landscape engineering. Using Cite Space 6.2.R6 (a visual bibliometric software) to visualize knowledge structures and research topics, the analysis includes temporal and spatial examination, application scenario analysis, and technological hierarchy analysis. The paper summarizes the current challenges that XR still faces in the landscape engineering field and envisions extensible application scenarios for XR, providing a reference roadmap for the implementation of XR in landscape engineering. 

Research on the Application of Extended Reality in the Construction and Management of Landscape Engineering

The questions of a rapidly changing environmental design realm pose an epistemological crisis for landscape architecture in an age of upheaval. The role of new forms of intelligence becomes particularly important for the discipline of landscape architecture as it embraces the curation and choreography of living matter. Based on this understanding of the discipline, there are challenges when considering artificial intelligence in the field of landscape architecture that can be articulated in three areas: anthropocentrism, individualism, and means-end reasoning. What does this then say for the future of machine intelligence within the complex milieu of the environment and the discipline’s intent to engage the complexities of ecological and sociocultural systems?

 At present, due to the traditional village landscape protection method being relatively single, resulting in the traditional village landscape tends to “homogenization,” which is not conducive to the development of the village cultural landscape. This paper combines spatial information technology and three-dimensional modeling to reconstruct the village landscape and analyze its characteristics. Low-altitude oblique photography technology is used to collect village landscape information from multiple angles and then combined with the 3D model imaging law covariance equations to form the landscape 3D model features and then complete the multi-visual 3D model information matching. Finally, through texture mapping, the 3D model is generated to match the color of the real landscape. Using BIM technology, the data is refined to address the problem of local defects in the landscape 3D reconstruction process. The proposed technology is applied in practice to analyze the spatial comprehensibility of the test village landscape, and the comprehensibility value R² is obtained as 0.317, which is a poor spatial order of the test village. The village residents’ actual landscape color perception of the town ranges from -0.0364 to 0.4566, and the expected range is above 0.7. The actual perception is much lower than the predicted perception, and the subsequent landscape modification should be close to the villagers’ expectations.

The traditional urban landscape planning and design method cannot integrate the design into the whole planning scene and cannot express the planning effect of multiple schemes and large scenes in an efficient, intuitive, and coordinated way. With the development of computer science and technology, virtual reality technology based on AI is playing an important role in many aspects of urban landscape planning and design. In this paper, on the basis of 3D visualization landscape planning and design, 3D visualization urban landscape modeling is carried out using VR combined with the constructed deep neural network (DNN) to establish a 3D database and virtual scene model of the landscape, and 3D representation of the virtual scene landscape is realized. The designed solution allows the user to grab the object and release it into the workspace. If any placement is needed, the user can pick up the layer again and move it to a new location. Finally, the simulation experiment and its result analysis were conducted to effectively analyze the site of the real model and its matching rate, to realize the integration of the 3D image, 3D stereo, and system integration technology, and to finally complete the landscape design task.
