Purpose




Exploring the ways in which innovation can serve to create better and more integrated social, environmental, and economic enterprises is a key challenge. How firms innovate and change depends strongly on their management models. Permaculture concepts and principles could help the transition toward more sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to understand how management models could rely on Permaculture principles to facilitate innovations and changes toward sustainability.




Design/methodology/approach




This paper helps meet this challenge by exploring possible innovative management models that could help in pursuing sustainability by aligning enterprises with socio-ecological realities. The possible innovative management models built on the Permaculture concepts will be the object of analysis for this study.




Findings




The literature review shows that there could be innovative management models built on the Permaculture concepts, a potential alternative to western “traditional” management models. They would give preference to long-term objectives, intrinsic motivation, emergent coordination, and collective wisdom in decision making.




Originality/value




It is strategically important to find new concepts, models, methods, and practices that will lead society to be ecologically sustainable and socially responsible, besides being economically efficient. These socio-cultural and economic challenges are central to the design and construction of a society in which all individuals feel integrated and responsible.

Sustainable management models: innovating through Permaculture

Abstract Background This study aimed to assess the perception and awareness of malaria vaccine policy implementation among health policy actors in Nigeria. Methods A descriptive study was conducted to assess the opinions and perceptions of policy actors on the implementation of a vaccination programme against malaria in Nigeria. Descriptive statistics were carried out to study the characteristics of the population and the univariate analysis of the responses to questions presented to the participants. Multinomial logistic regression was conducted to evaluate the association between demographic characteristics and the responses. Results The study revealed that malaria vaccine awareness was poor, with only 48.9% of the policy actors having previous knowledge of the malaria vaccine. The majority of participants (67.8%) declared that they were aware of the importance of vaccine policy in efforts to manage disease transmission. As the number of years of work experience of the participants increased, the odds of being more likely to be aware of the malaria vaccine increased [OR 2.491 (1.183–5.250), p value &lt; 0.05]. Conclusion It is recommended that policy-makers develop methods of educating populations, increase awareness of the acceptability of the vaccine and ensure that an affordable malaria vaccine programme is implemented in the population.

Perception and awareness towards malaria vaccine policy implementation in Nigeria by health policy actors

In this study, we try to reveal the mechanism of the enterprise competitive strategies embedded in multi-network as the intermediary role between the three kinds network relationships and performance, in order to answer such question: what kind of network relationships can enterprise relies on and choose a speculate competitive strategies for sustainable development? This research chose the Chinese animation enterprises as samples. We collect data from questionnaires to Guangzhou Animation Association and such an opportunity of the 2014 Guangzhou International Cartoon Festival (2014CICF) and testified the mediation effects of three competitive strategies between different dimensions of networks and firm performance. Results of this study indicated the mediating role of the three kinds of competitive strategies between the multiple network connection and performance. 1) Confrontation strategy has a mediating impact between inner-industry network and performance, so as between cross-industry network and performance. 2) Barrier strategy has played a mediating role between inner-industry network and performance, so as between government-relation network and performance. But barrier strategy fails to play roles between the cross-industry network and performance. 3) Symbiosis strategy has played an incomplete mediating role on the relationship between inner-industry network and performance, so as between government-relation network and performance. This study introduced the context of the dynamic competitors to promote the development of dynamic competition theory. Adopting the perspective of multi-network to the study of the dynamic competitive strategy in this paper is put forward to fill the gap between the dynamic competitive behavior and the corporate strategy.

Because of market fragmentation, nowadays Chinese horizontal integrating firms are in a “two-line battle” competition both against MNEs and local firms. This paper attempted to discuss how can a firm, in such “two-line battle” competition, adopt a suitable competitive repertoire matching with its organizational coordination, and how dose market fragmentation have influence on this matching, if there is any. This paper, by empirically testing Chinese firms from three industries, found out that coordination has a negative moderating effect between complexity of repertoire and performance. Moreover, market fragmentation has weakening impact to the interaction between complexity and coordination. The conclusion enriched the analysis framework of competitive action (or repertoire) decision, and brought better understanding of the impacts of institutional context on firm competitive behavior.
