TL;DR: Findings are highly suggestive of an important role of clonidine in smoking cessation, and warrant further studies to establish the long-term efficacy of this drug and to replicate the association between nicotine dependence and depression.

Effect of History of Alcoholism or Major Depression on Smoking Cessation
TL;DR: The authors examined the influence of a history of alcoholism or major depression on smoking cessation for 220 subjects and found the success rate of recovering alcoholics was comparable to that of nonalcoholics, comorbidity of alcoholism and major depression exerted a detrimental effect, and smoking cessation did not precipitate an alcoholic relapse.
