Observer-based H ∞ control of networked systems with stochastic communication protocol

This technical note is concerned with the finite-horizon ${\cal H}_{\infty}$ fault estimation problem for a class of nonlinear stochastic time-varying systems with both randomly occurring faults and fading channels. The system model (dynamical plant) is subject to Lipschitz-like nonlinearities and the faults occur in a random way governed by a set of Bernoulli distributed white sequences. The system measurements are transmitted through fading channels described by a modified stochastic Rice fading model. The purpose of the addressed problem is to design a time-varying fault estimator such that, in the presence of channel fading and randomly occurring faults, the influence from the exogenous disturbances onto the estimation errors is attenuated at the given level quantified by a ${\cal H}_{\infty}$ -norm in the mean square sense. By utilizing the stochastic analysis techniques, sufficient conditions are established to ensure that the dynamic system under consideration satisfies the prespecified performance constraint on the fault estimation, and then a recursive linear matrix inequality approach is employed to design the desired fault estimator gains. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed fault estimation design scheme.

Summary

In this paper, the state estimation problem is investigated for a class of discrete-time stochastic systems in simultaneous presence of three network-induced phenomena, namely, fading measurements, randomly varying nonlinearities and probabilistic distributed delays. The channel fading is characterized by the lth-order Rice fading model whose coefficients are mutually independent random variables with given probability density functions. Two sequences of random variables obeying the Bernoulli distribution are utilized to govern the randomly varying nonlinearities and probabilistic distributed delays. The purpose of the problem addressed is to design an state estimator such that the dynamics of the estimation errors is stochastically stable and the prespecified disturbance rejection attenuation level is guaranteed. Through intensive stochastic analysis, sufficient conditions are established under which the addressed state estimation problem is recast as a convex optimization one that can be solved via the semi-definite program method. Finally, a simulation example is provided to show the usefulness of the proposed state estimation scheme. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

H∞ state estimation with fading measurements, randomly varying nonlinearities and probabilistic distributed delays

This paper mainly focuses on the H∞ filtering problem for a class of discrete time-varying systems with delays and randomly varying nonlinearities and sensor saturations. Two sets of binary switching sequences taking values of 1 and 0 are introduced to account for the stochastic phenomena of nonlinearities and sensor saturations which occur and influence the dynamics of the system in a probabilistic way. To further reflect the realities of transmission failure in the measurement, missing observation case is also considered simultaneously. By appropriately constructing a time-varying Lyapunov function and utilizing the stochastic analysis technique, sufficient criteria are presented in terms of a set of recursive linear matrix inequalities (RLMIs) under which the filtering error dynamics achieves the prescribed H∞ performance over a finite horizon. In continuation of our previous work on nonlinear stability analysis of trimmed isogeometric thin shells, this contribution is an extension to dynamic buckling analyses for predicting reliably complex snap‐through and mode‐jumping behavior. Specifically, a modified generalized‐ α$$ \alpha $$ time integration scheme is used and combined with a nonlinear isogeometric Kirchhoff–Love shell element to provide second‐order accuracy while introducing controllable high‐frequency dissipation. In addition, a weak enforcement of essential boundary conditions based on a penalty approach is considered with a particular focus on the inhomogeneous case of imposed prescribed displacements. Moreover, we propose a least‐squares B‐spline surface fitting approach and corresponding error measures to model both eigenmode based and measured geometric imperfections. The imperfect geometries thus obtained can be naturally integrated into the framework of isogeometric nonlinear dynamic shell analysis. Based on this idea, the different modeling methods and the influence of the appropriately considered geometric imperfections on the dynamic buckling behavior can be investigated systematically. Both perfect and geometrically imperfect shell models are considered to assess the performance of the proposed method. We compare our method with established developments in this field and demonstrate superior achievements with regard to solution quality and robustness.
