Piezocatalysis is an emerging technique that holds great promise for the conversion of ubiquitous mechanical energy into electrochemical energy through piezoelectric effect. However, mechanical energies in natural environment (such as wind energy, water flow energy, and noise) are typically tiny, scattered, and featured with low frequency and low power. Therefore, a high response to these tiny mechanical energies is critical to achieving high piezocatalytic performance. In comparison to nanoparticles or 1D piezoelectric materials, 2D piezoelectric materials possess characteristics such as high flexibility, easy deformation, large surface area, and rich active sites, showing more promise in future for practical applications. In this review, state-of-the-art research progresses on 2D piezoelectric materials and their applications in piezocatalysis are provided. First, a detailed description of 2D piezoelectric materials are offered. Then a comprehensive summary of the piezocatalysis technique is presented and examines the piezocatalysis applications of 2D piezoelectric materials in various fields, including environmental remediation, small-molecule catalysis, and biomedicine. Finally, the main challenges and prospects of 2D piezoelectric materials and their applications in piezocatalysis are discussed. It is expected that this review can fuel the practical application of 2D piezoelectric materials in piezocatalysis.

Abstract Piezocatalysis and piezo‐photocatalysis technology is a continuously developing catalytic technology based on the piezoelectric effect of catalysts, which breaks the barrier between mechanical and chemical energy. The piezoelectric polarization field formed by the mechanical deformation of piezoelectric materials is proven to effectively manipulate band structures, improve the separation of electron‐hole pairs and enhance the catalytic activity, thus alleviating energy crises and environmental issues. Herein, this review first introduces the technology of piezocatalysis and piezo‐photocatalysis, comprehensively summarizes the synthesis methods of piezo(photo)catalysis materials, and analyzes and discusses the measures to optimize the performance of piezo(photo)catalysts. The following systematically summarizes the characteristics and development of the current main piezo(photo)catalytic systems, and discusses the application of first principles calculations in piezo(photo)catalysis in combination with practical researches. Subsequently, the main application progress of piezo(photo)catalysis in environmental remediation, energy conversion, and biomedical therapy fields is presented. In the end, the current challenges, development direction, and future prospects are prospected.

The recovery of copper from circuit boards is currently a hot topic. However, recycling copper from circuit boards economically and environmentally is still a considerable challenge. In this study, a simple hydrothermal method was used to synthesize MoS2 with nano-flower-like morphology using sodium molybdate dihydrate and thiourea as molybdenum and sulfur sources. The metal copper in the chip was successfully dissolved under the action of free radicals produced by ultrasound. The results show that under the catalytic action of hydrothermal synthesis MoS2, the concentration of Cu2+ dissolved by ultrasonic treatment for 10 h is 39.46 mg/L. In contrast, the concentration of Cu2+ dissolved by commercial MoS2 is only 2.20 mg/L under the same condition. The MoS2 is polarized by external mechanical forces and reacts with water to produce H+ and free electrons e−, which can combine with O2 and OH− to produce ·OH and ·O2− free radicals. Elemental Cu is converted to Cu2+ by the attack of these two free radicals.
