TL;DR: It was found that the amount of extracted plasticizer from PVC lines increased with the lipophilia of the perfused solution, so that the total load of a newborn with DEHP reaches up to 10 mg a day.
Polyvinylchloride infusion lines expose infants to large amounts of toxic plasticizers
TL;DR: This large amount of DEHP is especially disturbing, because it effects the most vulnerable patients (neonates), and whether there is a relation to TPN-induced hepatobiliary dysfunction remains to be elucidated and is under investigation.
