Robust non-fragile dynamic vibration absorbers with uncertain factors

Vibro-elastography is a new medical imaging method that identifies the mechanical properties of tissue by measuring tissue motion in response to a multi-frequency external vibration source. Previous research on vibro-elastography used ultrasound to measure the tissue motion and system identification techniques to identify the tissue properties. This paper describes a hand-held probe with a combined vibration source and ultrasound transducer to implement the new method as a practical device. The device uses a proportional integral active dynamic vibration absorber with an electromagnetic actuator to counterbalance the reaction forces from contact with the tissue. Experiments show an operational frequency range of 5–2 0 Hz, with at least 15 dB vibration absorption in 0.4 s for single frequency excitation. Experiments with variable frequency and amplitude excitation also show a high level of vibration absorption. DOI: 10.1115/1.2424982

Specific conditions are very frequently established in mechanical systems that contain rotating thin disk-shaped tools, causing undesirable transverse deflections or even vibrations The excitation mode of rotating tools is mechanical, external loads change with time and in certain cases even self-excitation can occur The problem can be eliminated by a more rigid design of a disk tool, but because of numerous technological requirements this is unacceptable It is necessary to combine the basic structure with a system, the operation of which reduces most of the energy produced by the rotating and transversely vibrating tool An active electromagnetic system for damping lateral vibrations of circular saw blades is presented This electromagnetic system consists of two electromagnets, mounted transversely to the body that carries a ferromagnetic saw blade The current running through the two electromagnets is controlled by a robust algorithm, which takes into account the static deformation of the saw blade An experimental model was used to test the efficiency and operation stability of this system The results show that the developed system represents a very efficient tool for reducing lateral vibrations of rotating disk tools

Aircraft interior noise is governed by the sound characteristics of the fuselage sidewall. Active trim panel attachments provide a promising technology for the low-frequency control of interior noise. Placed between the main fuselage and the cabin trim panels they are used to control the dynamic structural response and consequently the sound radiation of the trim panels. The control concept has been developed by means of a vibro-acoustic simulation model representing a generic aircraft section. A prototype demonstrator was experimentally tested under laboratory conditions proving that substantial reductions in sound transmission for various tonal and broadband perturbations can be obtained with such an active system.
