A new topology of full-bridge dc-dc converter is proposed featuring zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) of active switches over the entire conversion range. In contrast to conventional techniques, the stored energy in the auxiliary inductor of the proposed converter is minimal under full-load condition and it progressively increases as the load current decreases. Therefore, the ZVS operation over the entire conversion range is achieved without significantly increasing full-load conduction loss making the converter particularly suitable in applications where the output is required to be adjustable over a wide range and load resistance is fixed (e.g., an electromagnet power supply). The principle of operation is described and the considerations in the design of converter are discussed. Performance of the proposed converter is verified with experimental results on a 500-W, 100-kHz prototype.

A Full-Bridge DC–DC Converter WithZero-Voltage-Switching Overthe Entire Conversion Range

Multiphase isolated dc-dc converters allow current sharing among phases and high-frequency ripple cancellation and are very desirable for low-voltage high-power fuel cell applications. The three-phase dc-dc converters particularly are getting more attention because they share the same circuit structure as the conventional three-phase dc-ac inverters, and they have been reported to have high-efficiency operation. This paper is to compare the similarities and differences between two soft-switched three-phase dc-dc converters: one with three phase legs and the other with six phase legs. This paper will describe basic operating principle of these two multiphase dc-dc converters and compare their performance for a low-voltage, high-power fuel cell application. Two 5-kW converters have been built and tested with a fuel cell simulator. Experimental switching waveforms and efficiency profiles are shown to support the described basic principles. Major features and differences between these two converters will be discussed.

Multiphase Isolated DC-DC Converters for Low-Voltage High-Power Fuel Cell Applications

Contemporary telecommunication systems demand small size power supplies with a high level of electromagnetic capability and low power dissipation. Resonant power conversion topologies meeting these requirements have been available and successfully implemented in practice for a decade. A phase-shifted, pulse-width modulated (PWM) converter topology has been proposed aiming to combine the resonant soft-switching mechanism (featuring low switching losses) with the effectiveness of the PWM-control method (featuring low conduction losses). An extensive comparison between a parallel resonant converter and phase-shifted PWM converter over various operating conditions has been accomplished. Both topologies have been designed to comply with technical specifications typical for telecommunications. The complexities of the comparison mean that one topology cannot be considered more favourable than the other unless a set of operating specifications is defined. In terms of converter efficiency alone, above 70% of full rated output power the performances are very similar. Soft-switched PWM is slightly more efficient in the mid load range, but not at light loads when soft-switching operation is lost. The severe EMI problems and difficulty in manufacturing consistently phase-shifted PWM topology has also been discussed. It has been concluded in summary that the advantages of the parallel resonant converter outweigh those of phase-shifted PWM converter if they are designed to meet typical telecommunication requirements.

211 Abstract—This paper deals with the simulation and implementation of Full-Bridge DC-DC converter with Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS). The 48V DC is efficiently reduced to 12V DC using DC-DC converter. Switching losses are reduced by zero voltage switching. Switching stresses are reduced by using resonant inductor and capacitor. This converter has advantages like low switching loss, less EMI, and less switching stresses. DC-DC converter is modelled and simulated using simulink. The hardware is fabricated and tested..The simulation results are compared with the experimental results. The aim of this work is to develop an efficient DC-DC converter with high power density.

A Full-Bridge DC-DC Converter with Zero-Voltage Switching: Experimental Studies

A new method to suppress voltage stress of switches and transformers is proposed for phase shift controlled dc-dc converter. In the proposed method, two transformers are used and secondary windings are connected in series, which allows zero voltage switching of the switches. Since switching nodes are coupled together by transformer, the locations of them do not matter, so series connection of power switches is capable. The main advantage of the proposed method is reduced voltage stress that is decreased a half of that of conventional converter. Since switches with small on resistances can be used, power efficiency is also improved.

Voltage stress suppression method using coupled transformer for phase shift controlled converter

The fundamental equations characterising the full-bridge zero-voltage-switched DC-DC convertor are utilised in a nonlinear design-optimisation routine. The design is subject to realistic constraints along with an objective function of minimal total and/or maximum efficiency. The routine is used to study the effects of switching frequency, leakage inductance and load range for zero-voltage switching on the efficiency and size. Maximum efficiency is shown to occur when zero-voltage switching is maintained in the immediate vicinity of full-load operation. Experimental measurements confirm computed predictions.
