Centenarians, but not octogenarians, up-regulate the expression of microRNAs.
Eva Serna,Juan Gambini,Consuelo Borrás,Kheira M. Abdelaziz,Angel Belenguer,Paula Sanchis,Juan A. Avellana,Leocadio Rodríguez-Mañas,Jose Viña +8 more
TL;DR: The first comparison of microRNAs expression profiles in mononuclear cells from centenarians, octogenarians and young individuals resident near Valencia, Spain is reported, suggesting that the small non-coding RNAs signature in 100enarians may provide insights into the underlying molecular mechanisms endowing centenarian with extreme longevity.
New pattern of EGFR amplification in glioblastoma and the relationship of gene copy number with gene expression profile.
Concha López-Ginés,Rosario Gil-Benso,Rubén Ferrer-Luna,R. Benito,Eva Serna,José M. González-Darder,Vicente Quilis,Daniel Monleon,Bernardo Celda,Miguel Cerdá-Nicolás +9 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the different patterns of EGFR amplification in 40 cases of glioblastoma using FISH analysis in metaphases and paraffin sections found a close correlation between EGFR gene copy-number alterations and the level of EG FR protein expression.

Sepsis in preterm infants causes alterations in mucosal gene expression and microbiota profiles compared to non-septic twins
María Cernada,Christine Bäuerl,Eva Serna,Maria Carmen Collado,Gaspar Pérez Martínez,Máximo Vento +5 more
TL;DR: The role of inflammation and oxidative stress in neonatal sepsis on gut microbial profiles is highlighted and highlighted in a prospective observational case-control study conducted in septic preterm dizygotic twins and their non-septic twin controls.
Human exceptional longevity: transcriptome from centenarians is distinct from septuagenarians and reveals a role of Bcl‐xL in successful aging
Consuelo Borrás,Kheira M. Abdelaziz,Juan Gambini,Eva Serna,Marta Inglés,Mónica De la Fuente,Idoia Garcia,Ander Matheu,Paula Sanchis,Angel Belenguer,Alessandra Errigo,Juan A. Avellana,Ana Barettino,Carla Lloret-Fernandez,Nuria Flames,Gianni Pes,Leocadio Rodríguez-Mañas,Jose Viña +17 more
- 28 Oct 2016
TL;DR: Results show that mRNA expression in centenarians is unique and reveals that BcL- xL plays an important role in exceptional aging, and shows a significant increase in mean and maximal life span.

Validation of the Sepsis MetaScore for Diagnosis of Neonatal Sepsis.
Timothy E. Sweeney,James L. Wynn,María Cernada,Eva Serna,Hector R. Wong,Hector R. Wong,Henry V. Baker,Máximo Vento,Purvesh Khatri +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a gene-expression-based signature is an accurate objective measure of the risk of sepsis in a neonate or preterm infant, and it substantially improves diagnostic accuracy over that of commonly used laboratory-based testing.
