Interleukin-22 ameliorates acute-on-chronic liver failure by reprogramming impaired regeneration pathways in mice
Xiaogang Xiang,Xiaogang Xiang,Dechun Feng,Seonghwan Hwang,Tianyi Ren,Xiaolin Wang,Eszter Trojnar,Csaba Mátyás,Ruidong Mo,Dabao Shang,Yong He,Wonhyo Seo,Vijay H. Shah,Pal Pacher,Qing Xie,Bin Gao +15 more
TL;DR: This severe liver injury model developed acute-on-chronic liver injury, bacterial infection, multi-organ injury, and high mortality, recapitulating some features of clinical ACLF, suggesting interleukin-22 (IL-22Fc) therapy may have therapeutic potential for ACLF treatment.

Neutrophil-to-hepatocyte communication via LDLR-dependent miR-223-enriched extracellular vesicle transfer ameliorates nonalcoholic steatohepatitis
Yong He,Robim Marcelino Rodrigues,Xiaolin Wang,Wonhyo Seo,Jing Ma,Seonghwan Hwang,Yaojie Fu,Eszter Trojnar,Csaba Mátyás,Suxian Zhao,Ruixue Ren,Dechun Feng,Pal Pacher,George Kunos,Bin Gao +14 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that neutrophil-specific microRNA-223 is elevated in hepatocytes to limit NASH progression in obese mice and this elevation was due to preferential uptake of miR-223-enriched extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from neutrophils as well other types of cells albeit to a lesser extent.
Interplay of cardiovascular mediators, oxidative stress and inflammation in liver disease and its complications.
TL;DR: The potential roles of inflammation, oxidative stress, vasoactive mediator imbalance, dysregulated endocannabinoid and autonomic nervous systems and endothelial dysfunction in mediating the complex interplay between the liver and the systemic vasculature that results in the development of the extrahepatic complications of chronic liver disease are explored.

PCSK9 inhibition as a novel therapeutic target for alcoholic liver disease
Ji Soo Lee,Partha Mukhopadhyay,Csaba Mátyás,Eszter Trojnar,János Pálóczi,Yuan Ru Yang,Brandon A. Blank,Cody Savage,Alexander V. Sorokin,Nehal N. Mehta,Janaina C. M. Vendruscolo,George F. Koob,Leandro F. Vendruscolo,Pal Pacher,Falk W. Lohoff +14 more
TL;DR: Given the large unmet clinical need for effective and novel treatments for ALD, anti-PCSK9 treatment with the monoclonal antibody that spares liver metabolism is a viable new therapeutic possibility.
Cannabinoid-2 receptor activation ameliorates hepatorenal syndrome
Eszter Trojnar,Katalin Erdelyi,Csaba Mátyás,Suxian Zhao,János Pálóczi,Partha Mukhopadhyay,Zoltán Varga,György Haskó,Pal Pacher +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that targeting the CB2-R by selective agonists may represent a promising new avenue to treat HRS by attenuating tissue and vascular inflammation, oxidative stress, fibrosis and consequent microcirculatory dysfunction in the kidneys.
