Early extubation with immediate non-invasive ventilation versus standard weaning in intubated patients for coronavirus disease 2019: a retrospective multicenter study.
Gianmaria Cammarota,Rosanna Vaschetto,Danila Azzolina,Nello De Vita,Carlo Olivieri,Chiara Ronco,Federico Longhini,Andrea Bruni,Davide Colombo,Claudio Pissaia,Federico Prato,Carlo Maestrone,Matteo Maestrone,Luigi Vetrugno,Tiziana Bove,Francesco Lemut,Elisa Taretto,Alessandro Locatelli,Nicoletta Barzaghi,Martina Cerrano,Enrico Ravera,Christian Zanza,Andrea Della Selva,Ilaria Blangetti,Francesco Salvo,Fabrizio Racca,Yaroslava Longhitano,Annalisa Boscolo,Ilaria Sguazzotti,Valeria Bonato,Francesca Grossi,Federico Crimaldi,Raffaella Perucca,Ester Boniolo,Federico Verdina,Gian Luca Vignazia,Erminio Santangelo,Riccardo Tarquini,Marta Zanoni,Antonio Messina,Matteo Marin,Paola Bacigalupo,Graziana Sileci,Nicolò Sella,Edardo De Robertis,Francesco Della Corte,Paolo Navalesi +46 more
TL;DR: In patients intubated for hypoxemic acute respiratory failure (ARF) related to novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the authors retrospectively compared two weaning strategies, early extubation with immediate non-invasive ventilation (NIV) versus standard weaning encompassing spontaneous breathing trial (SBT).
Esophageal balloon calibration during Sigh: A physiologic, randomized, cross-over study.
Gianmaria Cammarota,Erminio Santangelo,Gianluigi Lauro,Federico Verdina,Ester Boniolo,Nello De Vita,Riccardo Tarquini,Elena Spinelli,Eugenio Garofalo,Andrea Bruni,Marta Zanoni,Antonio Messina,Antonio Pesenti,Francesco Della Corte,Paolo Navalesi,Rosanna Vaschetto,Tommaso Mauri +16 more
TL;DR: During Sigh breath, applying a calibrated approach for Pes assessment, a higher Vbest was required compared to VCV and PSV tidal breath.

Oesophageal balloon calibration during pressure support ventilation: a proof of concept study.
Gianmaria Cammarota,Federico Verdina,Erminio Santangelo,Gianluigi Lauro,Ester Boniolo,Riccardo Tarquini,Elena Spinelli,Marta Zanoni,Eugenio Garofalo,Andrea Bruni,Antonio Pesenti,Francesco Della Corte,Paolo Navalesi,Rosanna Vaschetto,Tommaso Mauri +14 more
TL;DR: In PSV, oesophageal balloon calibration is feasible and allows to obtain a reliable Pes assessment compared to uncalibrated approach, and Pescal was computed by correcting the Pes measured at Vbest for the oesphageal wall pressure elicited at same filling volume.
Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist preserves cerebral blood flow velocity in patients recovering from acute brain injury
Gianmaria Cammarota,Federico Verdina,Gianluigi Lauro,Ester Boniolo,Riccardo Tarquini,Antonio Messina,Nello De Vita,Ilaria Sguazzoti,Raffaella Perucca,Francesco Della Corte,Gian Luca Vignazia,Francesca Grossi,Samuele Crudo,Paolo Navalesi,Erminio Santangelo,Rosanna Vaschetto +15 more
TL;DR: NAVA and PSV preserved CBF velocity in patients recovering from ABI and no differences were detected for pH, arterial carbon dioxide tension, oxygenation, and oxygenation over the entire study duration.
