J. Rhet Tucker,Li Xu,Erich M. Sturgis,Abdallah S.R. Mohamed,Abdallah S.R. Mohamed,Theresa M. Hofstede,Mark S. Chambers,Stephen Y. Lai,Clifton D. Fuller,Beth M. Beadle,G. Brandon Gunn,Katherine A. Hutcheson +11 more
TL;DR: While the rate of ORN after radiotherapy for SGM was somewhat lower (4%) than previously published data on patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck treated with radiation therapy, ORN necessitating major surgery remains a clinically significant, possible late effect of radiotherapy in SGM survivors.

Association between a functional polymorphism (-1195T>C) in the IGFBP5 promoter and head and neck cancer risk.
Jiangong Niu,Yu Jing Huang,Sheng Wei,Zhensheng Liu,Li E. Wang,Shine Chang,Robert M. Chamberlain,Adel K. El-Naggar,Erich M. Sturgis,Qingyi Wei +9 more
TL;DR: To the best of the knowledge, no studies to date have evaluated roles of insulin‐like growth factor binding protein 5 (IGFBP5) polymorphisms in risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).
Randomized trial of a short course of erlotinib 150 to 300 mg daily prior to surgery for squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck (SCCHN) in current, former, and never smokers: Objective responses and clinical outcomes.

TL;DR: Erlotinib at 150-200 mg (never/former smokers) or 300 mg (current smokers) daily for 2-8 weeks prior to surgery in pts with SCCHN was safe and response rates were 18% and 29% in the low and high dose arms, respectively, and 35% in pt with an oral cavity primary tumor.

- 01 Jan 2008
TL;DR: It is likely that no single known factor is responsible for a majority of SCCHN in NSNDs, which are commonly young women with oral tongue cancer, elderly women with gingi- val/buccal cancer, or young to middle-aged men with oropha- ryngeal cancer.

Significance of microRNA-related variants in susceptibility to recurrence of oropharyngeal cancer patients after definitive radiotherapy
Xingming Chen,Erich M. Sturgis,Chengyuan Wang,Xiaoli Cao,Xiaoli Cao,Yuncheng Li,Yuncheng Li,Qingyi Wei,Guojun Li +8 more
TL;DR: It is found that the SNPs in the miRNA146, miRNA196, and Gemin3 were associated with a significantly reduced and increased risk of SCCOP recurrence after multivariate adjustment and taken together, this is the first study with a large cohort of S CCOP patients showing that miRNA-related genetic variants may modify risk of
