Fecal microbiota transplant from a rational stool donor improves hepatic encephalopathy: A randomized clinical trial
Jasmohan S. Bajaj,Zain Kassam,Andrew Fagan,Edith Gavis,Eric J. Liu,I. Jane Cox,Raffi Kheradman,Douglas M. Heuman,Jessica Wang,Thomas Gurry,Roger Williams,Masoumeh Sikaroodi,Michael Fuchs,Eric J. Alm,Binu John,Leroy R. Thacker,Antonio Riva,Mark Smith,Simon D. Taylor-Robinson,Patrick M. Gillevet +19 more
TL;DR: FMT from a rationally selected donor reduced hospitalizations, improved cognition, and dysbiosis in cirrhosis with recurrent HE, and increased diversity and beneficial taxa.

Fungal dysbiosis in cirrhosis.
Jasmohan S. Bajaj,Eric J. Liu,Raffi Kheradman,Andrew Fagan,Douglas M. Heuman,Melanie B. White,Edith Gavis,Phillip B. Hylemon,Masoumeh Sikaroodi,Patrick M. Gillevet +9 more
TL;DR: There is a significant fungal dysbiosis in cirrhosis, which changes differentially with antibiotics and proton pump inhibitor use, but is otherwise stable over time, and a combined bacterial–fungal Dysbiosis metric, Bacteroidetes/Ascomycota ratio, can independently predict 90-day hospitalisations in patients with Cirrhosis.

Elderly patients have an altered gut-brain axis regardless of the presence of cirrhosis.
Jasmohan S. Bajaj,Vishwadeep Ahluwalia,Joel L. Steinberg,Sarah Hobgood,Peter A. Boling,Michael Godschalk,Saima Habib,Melanie B. White,Andrew Fagan,Edith Gavis,Dinesh Ganapathy,Phillip B. Hylemon,Karen E. Stewart,Raffi Keradman,Eric J. Liu,Jessica Wang,Patrick M. Gillevet,Masoumeh Sikaroodi,F. Gerard Moeller,James B. Wade +19 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that gut-brain axis alterations may be associated with the type of neurobehavioral decline or inflamm-aging in elderly cirrhotic subjects.
