Comparative validation of single-shot optical techniques for laparoscopic 3-D surface reconstruction.
Lena Maier-Hein,Anja Groch,Adrien Bartoli,Sebastian Bodenstedt,G. Boissonnat,Ping-Lin Chang,Neil T. Clancy,Daniel S. Elson,Sven Haase,Eric Heim,Joachim Hornegger,Pierre Jannin,Hannes Kenngott,Thomas Kilgus,Beat P. Müller-Stich,D. Oladokun,Sebastian Röhl,T. R. Dos Santos,Heinz Peter Schlemmer,Alexander Seitel,Stefanie Speidel,Martin Wagner,Danail Stoyanov +22 more
TL;DR: This comprehensive in vitro study investigated reconstruction accuracy using different organs with various shape and texture and also tested reconstruction robustness with respect to a number of factors like the pose of the endoscope as well as the amount of blood or smoke present in the scene.

Clickstream Analysis for Crowd-Based Object Segmentation with Confidence
Eric Heim,Alexander Seitel,Jonas Andrulis,Fabian Isensee,Christian Stock,Tobias Ross,Lena Maier-Hein +6 more
TL;DR: This work is the first to analyze the annotation process to improve crowd-sourced image segmentation and shows that its method is highly accurate in estimating the segmentation quality based on clickstream data, and outperforms state-of-the-art methods for merging multiple annotations.
A learning-based, fully automatic liver tumor segmentation pipeline based on sparsely annotated training data
Michael Goetz,Eric Heim,Keno Maerz,Tobias Norajitra,Mohammadreza Hafezi,Nassim Fard,Arianeb Mehrabi,Max Knoll,Christian Weber,Lena Maier-Hein,Klaus H. Maier-Hein +10 more
TL;DR: A new algorithm for liver tumor segmentation that allows incorporating different CT scans and requires no manual interaction is presented and derives a liver segmentation with state-of-the-art shape models which are robust to initialization.
