The present invention is directed to a stent for use in a bifurcated body lumen having a main branch and a side branch. The stent comprises a radially expandable generally tubular stent body having proximal and distal opposing ends with a body wall having a surface extending therebetween. The surface has a geometrical configuration defining a first pattern, and the first pattern has first pattern struts and connectors arranged in a predetermined configuration. The stent also comprises a branch portion comprised of a second pattern, wherein the branch portion is at least partially detachable from the stent body.

A stent delivery assembly comprises a balloon catheter with a rotatable assembly disposed thereabout. The rotatable assembly comprises a rotatable sheath which in a reduced state is freely rotatable about the medical balloon and when in the expanded state is frictionally engaged by the expanded balloon. A secondary guide wire housing is at least partially engaged to the rotatable sheath. A stent may be disposed about at least a portion of the rotatable sheath and at least a portion of the secondary guide wire housing so that a distal end portion of the secondary guide wire housing exits the flow path of the stent through one of the plurality of cell openings which the stent defines.

A system for treatment of a vessel bifurcation and its method of use comprises a catheter having a catheter shaft, a portion of which is characterized as an axle about which a rotatable assembly is disposed and rotatable thereabout. The system employs a series of lumens, openings and/or ports to provide a balloon mounted on the rotatable assembly with fluid communication to the catheter shaft.

Bifurcated stent and delivery system

A stent delivery system comprises a catheter which includes a catheter shaft and a balloon positioned thereon. A rotatable sheath is rotatably disposed about a portion of the catheter. The rotatable sheath has a distal portion which extends over the balloon and a proximal portion which extends over the catheter shaft proximal to the balloon. A stent prior to delivery is disposed about the distal portion. The rotatable sheath may also and/or alternatively be constructed of a non-compliant material where as the balloon is a compliant material.

Bifurcated stent delivery system

A stent design (10) is provided for placement at a bifurcation, which provides support and coverage of a vessel. The stent (10) has ring sections made up of expansion segments arranged circumferentially around the stent (10), each of the expansion segments having a narrow strut and a wide strut joined by a joining segment, wherein the joining segment is alternatingly located at one end of the narrow and wide struts for one expansion segment, and at another end of the narrow and wide struts for another expansion segment. The ring sections are connected to one another by a series of sinusoidal connectors. Struts and connectors are non-parallel to axes of the stent. Optionally, a side hole (30) is provided for ease of access into a branch vessel.
