Drought and plant litter chemistry alter microbial gene expression and metabolite production.
Ashish A. Malik,Ashish A. Malik,Tami L. Swenson,Claudia Weihe,Eric W. Morrison,Jennifer B. H. Martiny,Eoin L. Brodie,Eoin L. Brodie,Trent R. Northen,Steven D. Allison +9 more
TL;DR: The results show a clear functional response to drought in grass litter communities with greater allocation to survival relative to growth that could affect decomposition under drought, and suggest, for the first time, a trade off between microbial drought stress tolerance, resource acquisition and growth traits in plant litter microbial communities.
Temporal transcriptomic microarray analysis of "Dehalococcoides ethenogenes" strain 195 during the transition into stationary phase.
David R. Johnson,Eoin L. Brodie,Alan Hubbard,Gary L. Andersen,Stephen H. Zinder,Lisa Alvarez-Cohen,Lisa Alvarez-Cohen +6 more
TL;DR: DNA microarrays were used to monitor dynamic changes in the transcriptome as “Dehalococcoides ethenogenes” strain 195 transitioned from exponential growth into stationary phase, providing molecular evidence that strain 195 can uncouple dechlorination from net growth.
Role of the rapA Gene in Controlling Antibiotic Resistance of Escherichia coli Biofilms
Susan V. Lynch,L. Dixon,Michael R. Benoit,Eoin L. Brodie,M. Keyhan,Ping Hu,David F. Ackerley,Gary L. Andersen,Abdul Matin +8 more
TL;DR: The results strongly suggest a dual mechanism for the wild-type biofilm penicillin G resistance, retarded penetration, and effective efflux.
Compartmentalized microbial composition, oxygen gradients and nitrogen fixation in the gut of Odontotaenius disjunctus
Javier A. Ceja-Navarro,Nhu H. Nguyen,Ulas Karaoz,Stephanie R Gross,Donald J. Herman,Gary L. Andersen,Thomas D Bruns,Jennifer Pett-Ridge,Meredith Blackwell,Eoin L. Brodie,Eoin L. Brodie +10 more
TL;DR: A compartmentalized microbiome in this beetle digestive tract is demonstrated but also sharp oxygen gradients that may permit aerobic and anaerobic metabolism to occur within the same regions in close proximity are demonstrated.
Physiological and Transcriptional Studies of Cr(VI) Reduction under Aerobic and Denitrifying Conditions by an Aquifer-Derived Pseudomonad
R. Han,Jil T. Geller,Li Yang,Eoin L. Brodie,Romy Chakraborty,Joern T. Larsen,Harry R. Beller +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that Cr(VI) reduction by strain RCH2 under either aerobic or denitrifying conditions is primarily cometabolic in the sense that the physiological electron acceptor (oxygen or nitrate) appears to be required.
