The present invention is directed to a stent for use in a bifurcated body lumen having a main branch and a side branch. The stent comprises a radially expandable generally tubular stent body having proximal and distal opposing ends with a body wall having a surface extending therebetween. The surface has a geometrical configuration defining a first pattern, and the first pattern has first pattern struts and connectors arranged in a predetermined configuration. The stent also comprises a branch portion comprised of a second pattern, wherein the branch portion is at least partially detachable from the stent body.

The present invention pertains to a stiffened balloon (14) which can be used in angioplasty, endovascular, and valvuloplasty procedures or as a delivery balloon to deliver a stent or a stent-graft. Longitudinally discontinuous stiffening members (16) connected to the expandable balloon stiffen the balloon (14) but allow it to be navigated through curved passages. Projections (48) on the stiffening members (46) may engage, incise, crush, fracture, or pierce occlusions or retain a stent or stent-graft. Radio-opaque portions may be referenced to determine orientation. Longitudinally continuous stiffening members (46) bearing projections (48) and connected to the balloon (44) perform in a similar manner.

An expandable bone device including a unitary body extending along a longitudinal axis and including a deformable distal end portion having a collapsed orientation for placement adjacent a spinal structure, the deformable distal end portion including relatively wide, mutually contiguous support surfaces outlined by relatively narrow cutouts, the support surfaces being contiguous with the rest of the unitary body via relatively narrow deformable splines, the deformable distal end portion having an expanded orientation wherein the support surfaces are moved transversely outwards away from and generally parallel to the longitudinal axis, and an actuator coupled to the deformable distal end portion and operative to cause movement of the deformable distal end portion between the collapsed orientation and the expanded orientation.

In some implementations, a method of ablating body tissue includes (a) locating an inflatable balloon portion of a cryotherapy balloon catheter at a treatment site internal to a patient's body, and inflating the inflatable balloon portion; (b) employing electrodes that are disposed on an expandable surface of the inflatable balloon portion to electrically characterize body tissue at the treatment site; (c) ablating the body tissue by supplying a cryotherapy agent to the inflatable balloon portion to cool the body tissue to a therapeutic temperature; (d) employing the electrodes to determine whether the ablating caused desired electrical changes in the body tissue; and (e) repeating (c) and (d) when it is determined that the ablating did not cause the desired electrical changes.

A balloon and method of manufacture for use in catheters for medical procedures, in particular percutaneous translumenal coronary angioplasty and other cardiovascular interventions. The balloon incorporates an inflatable membrane having a number of perpendicular ribs which have a higher resistance to collapse during deflation. A number of longitudinal ribs are provided which are preferably equidistantly spaced about a longitudinal axis and which extend between a proximal and distal end of the balloon. A number of triangular indentations are provided, wherein each triangular indentation is preferably equidistantly positioned between adjacent longitudinal ribs and each triangular indentation extends along a portion of the balloon between the proximal and distal ends. Each triangular indentation may extend through a perpendicular rib to reduce the resistance of the perpendicular rib to collapse during deflation. The number of triangular indentations enhance the collapse of the balloon from an expanded configuration to a folded configuration once the resistance of the number of perpendicular ribs to collapse has been overcome.
