Fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and antithymocyte globulin for matched related and unrelated allogeneic stem cell transplant in severe aplastic anemia
Paolo Anderlini,Sandra Acholonu,Grace Julia Okoroji,Roland Bassett,Elizabeth J. Shpall,Muzaffar H. Qazilbash,Uday R. Popat,Laura L. Worth,Sergio Giralt,Richard E. Champlin +9 more
TL;DR: Total body irradiation-free, FLU-based conditioning for matched related and unrelated allo-SCT is feasible with high engraftment rates, but EBV PTLD remains a drawback of this approach.
Metabolic Reprogramming of GMP Grade Cord Tissue Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Enhances Their Suppressive Potential in GVHD.
Mayela Mendt,May Daher,Rafet Basar,Mayra Shanley,Bijender Kumar,Francesca Lim Wei Inng,Sunil Acharya,Hila Shaim,Natalie W. Fowlkes,Jamie P. Tran,Elif Gokdemir,Nadima Uprety,Ana K. TL;DR: In this paper, Chen et al. used a regimen of inflammatory cytokines to optimize cord blood tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells (CBti MSCs) by priming them with metabolic reprogramming with enhancement of glycolytic capacity.
Nonmyeloablative Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation for Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia in the Imatinib Era
Richard E. Champlin,Marcos de Lima,Partow Kebriaei,Gabriela Rondon,Tobi Fisher,Elias Jabbour,Jorge E. Cortes,Hagop M. Kantarjian,Paolo Anderlini,Amin M. Alousi,Chitra Hosing,Elizabeth J. Shpall,Uday R. Popat,Muzaffar H. Qazilbash,Borje S. Andersson,Sergio Giralt +15 more
TL;DR: Allogeneic stem cell transplantation is a potentially curative treatment for patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia but it is unclear whether patients whose disease is considered to have failed imatinib should be referred immediately for ASCT or receive treatment with a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI).

Cord Blood Derived Natural Killer Cells Engineered with a Chimeric Antigen Receptor Targeting CD19 and Expressing IL-15 Have Long Term Persistence and Exert Potent Anti-Leukemia Activity
Enli Liu,Yijiu Tong,Gianpietro Dotti,Barbara Savoldo,Muharrem Muftuoglu,Kayo Kondo,Malini Mukherjee,Jordan S. Orange,Catherine Sobieski,Abdullah Alsuliman,Hila Shaim,Nobuhiko Imahashi,Michael J. Keating,Chitra Hosing,Nina Shah,William G. Wierda,Richard E. Champlin,Elizabeth J. Shpall,Katayoun Rezvani +18 more
TL;DR: To enhance the GVL effect independent of KIR-ligand mismatch, genetically modified human CB-derived NK cells with a retroviral vector, CAR19-CD28-zeta-2A-IL15 (CAR19/IL15), which incorporates the genes for CAR-CD19, IL-15 to enhance proliferation and survival, and the inducible caspase-9 molecule is introduced.

Paclitaxel-containing high-dose chemotherapy: The University of Colorado experience
Pablo J. Cagnoni,Elizabeth J. Shpall,Scott I. Bearman,S. Matthes,Maureen Ross,S. Taffs,Roy B. Jones +6 more
TL;DR: It was demonstrated that the dose of paclitaxel could be escalated to 775 mg/m2, combined with cyclophosphamide 5,625 mg/ m2 and cisplatin 165 mg/M2, followed by autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell support, and a phase II study testing this combination in patients with chemotherapy-responsive metastatic breast cancer has been initiated.
