Expert and exceptional performance are shown to be mediated by cognitive and perceptual-motor skills and by domain-specific physiological and anatomical adaptations. The highest levels of human performance in different domains can only be attained after around ten years of extended, daily amounts of deliberate practice activities. Laboratory analyses of expert performance in many domains such as chess, medicine, auditing, computer programming, bridge, physics, sports, typing, juggling, dance, and music reveal maximal adaptations of experts to domain-specific constraints. For example, acquired anticipatory skills circumvent general limits on reaction time, and distinctive memory skills allow a domain-specific expansion of working memory capacity to support planning, reasoning, and evaluation. Many of the mechanisms of superior expert performance serve the dual purpose of mediating experts' current performance and of allowing continued improvement of this performance in response to informative feedback during practice activities.

Theories and Research in Clinical Decision Making and Skill Acquisition in Nursing Practice : Skill Acquisition ; Expert and exceptional performance: evidence of maximal adaptation to task constraints

The current research goes through three stages, which namely, validations study, pilot intervention programme study and finally, main intervention programme study. This paper devised two original scales, namely the Academic Self-Concept Scale (ASC) and Self-Regulation Scale (SRS). These two scales and three other existing scales- Myself-As-A-Learner Scale ( MALS) (Burden, 1998), Self-efficacy for Self-regulated Learning Scale (SSLS) (Usher and Pajares, 2008) and Locus of Control Scale (LCS) ( Nowicki and Strickland, 1973) were subjected to a validation analysis through utilising Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Each of these scales was discovered to have acceptable reliability, construct validity, content validity and criterion validity. Following this test, the researcher adopted these five scales in order to investigate the differences between 802 students (aged 10-12 years) with and without learning difficulties in Saudi. The statistical analysis indicated that there were significant differences, with a moderate impact across all of the scales on students with and without learning difficulties, apart from a small impact on the (LCS). 
	The researcher subsequently designed an intervention programme, based on a theoretical framework that emphasised social cognitive theory. The effectiveness of the intervention programme was investigated in terms of improving students with learning difficulties’ (SRS), (SSLS) and (ASC). In order to investigate effectiveness in relation to each of these areas, the researcher utilised all of the five scales mentioned previously, apart from the (LCS), with 40 students divided equally between experimental and control groups. The statistical analysis indicated that the proposed intervention programme significantly enhanced students’ scores on the (MALS) and (SRS), in favour of the experimental group. However, the discrepancies between the experimental and control groups were not statistically significant for the (ASC) and (SSLS). However, students in the experimental group acquired higher scores than those in the control group for these two scales.

The current study aimed to identify teacher candidates’ learning strategies and academic self-efficacy levels. Furthermore, the correlations between these variables and gender and departments were looked into. The study was mainly descriptive and correlational. The sample of the study consisted of 256 teacher candidates enrolled at a faculty of education. To collect data, The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and Academic Self-Efficacy Scale were used. During the analysis phase of the study besides descriptive statistics, bivariate correlation and multivariate analysis of variance were carried out. The findings revealed that there was a significant correlation between the learning strategies rehearsal, organization, metacognitive self-regulation, association, time/study environmental, and peer learning and help seeking. The results MANOVA revealed significant relations between rehearsal, organization, metacognitive self-regulation strategies and departments and gender. Furthermore, the findings indicated that the teacher candidates had an overall high academic self-efficacy levels.
