Low levels of serum paraoxonase activities are characteristic of metabolic syndrome and may influence the metabolic-syndrome-related risk of coronary artery disease.
Nicola Martinelli,Roberta Micaglio,Letizia Consoli,Patrizia Guarini,Elisa Grison,Francesca Pizzolo,Simonetta Friso,Elisabetta Trabetti,Pier Franco Pignatti,Roberto Corrocher,Oliviero Olivieri,Domenico Girelli +11 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that low PON1 concentrations are typical in MS and may modulate the MS-related risk of CAD, independently of both HDL and apolipoprotein A-I levels.
Controlling nutritional status score predicts 2-year outcomes in elderly patients admitted for acute heart failure
Davide Agnoletti,Guido Arcaro,Giuliana Scaturro,E Turcato,Elisa Grison,E. Ferrari,Stefano Bonapace,Giovanni Targher,Filippo Valbusa +8 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the role of malnutrition, assessed by controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score, on adverse clinical outcomes in the elderly admitted for acute heart failure (HF) and the composite of all-cause death or hospitalizations over 2-year follow-up.
Central and peripheral fat and subclinical vascular damage in older women
Francesco Fantin,Andrea Rossi,Marco Cazzadori,Gabriele Comellato,Gloria Mazzali,Maria Paola Gozzoli,Elisa Grison,Mauro Zamboni +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown, in a sample of apparently healthy elderly women, that central and peripheral adiposity are independent predictors, with an opposite effect on subclinical vascular damage, confirming and strengthening the protective role of the gluteal-femoral fat on cardiovascular risk even in elderly.
Relationship between neck circumference, insulin resistance and arterial stiffness in overweight and obese subjects.
Francesco Fantin,Gabriele Comellato,Andrea Rossi,Elisa Grison,Elena Zoico,Gloria Mazzali,Mauro Zamboni +6 more
TL;DR: The findings emphasise the need to measure not only waist but even neck circumference to better stratify and identify individuals at increased cardiometabolic risk, as upper-body subcutaneous fat is a novel, easily measured fat depot.
Paraoxonases: ancient substrate hunters and their evolving role in ischemic heart disease.
Nicola Martinelli,Letizia Consoli,Domenico Girelli,Elisa Grison,Roberto Corrocher,Oliviero Olivieri +5 more
TL;DR: Examining the biochemical pathways impacted by these unique enzymes and investigating the potential use of PON as diagnostic tools and their impact on development of future therapeutic strategies finds their multifunctional roles in various biochemical pathways remain poorly characterized.
