Bioinert ceramic biomaterials: advanced applications
Elena P. Ivanova,Kateryna Bazaka,Russell J. Crawford +2 more
- 01 Jan 2014
TL;DR: In this paper, the fundamental properties that make inert ceramics the materials of choice for the production of numerous loadbearing implants are discussed and the shortcomings of these materials, namely their relative brittleness and limited ability to be integrated with soft and hard tissues in vivo, are also discussed as a limiting factor for their clinical application.

Hydrophobicity of Nonwetting Soils
Russell J. Crawford,Elena P. Ivanova +1 more
- 01 Jan 2015
TL;DR: In this paper, the current understanding of mechanisms underlying the causes of soil nonwettability is reviewed together with the interrelationships between the physical surface topology and the chemical interactions occurring at the soil particle surface.

Current Perspectives on the Development of Virucidal Nano Surfaces
Denver P. Linklater,V Tzanov,Vladimir A. Baulin,Natalie A. Borg,Graeme Moad,Ranya Simons,Andrea J. O'Connor,Elena P. Ivanova +7 more
TL;DR: In this article , the potential of using nanostructured surfaces for the physical inactivation of virus particles is discussed, however, there remains a limited number of suitable nanofabrication approaches and a lack of understanding of the nature of efficient virucidal surfaces.
