Marine microalgae and seaweeds (microalgae) represent a sustainable source of various bioactive natural carotenoids, including β-carotene, lutein, astaxanthin, zeaxanthin, violaxanthin and fucoxanthin. Recently, the large-scale production of carotenoids from algal sources has gained significant interest with respect to commercial and industrial applications for health, nutrition, and cosmetic applications. Although conventional processing technologies, based on solvent extraction, offer a simple approach to isolating carotenoids, they suffer several, inherent limitations, including low efficiency (extraction yield), selectivity (purity), high solvent consumption, and long treatment times, which have led to advancements in the search for innovative extraction technologies. This comprehensive review summarizes the recent trends in the extraction of carotenoids from microalgae and seaweeds through the assistance of different innovative techniques, such as pulsed electric fields, liquid pressurization, supercritical fluids, subcritical fluids, microwaves, ultrasounds, and high-pressure homogenization. In particular, the review critically analyzes technologies, characteristics, advantages, and shortcomings of the different innovative processes, highlighting the differences in terms of yield, selectivity, and economic and environmental sustainability.

Innovative Alternative Technologies to Extract Carotenoids from Microalgae and Seaweeds

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE Since the birth of the Internet, two-way communication via Web-based exchanges has become more and more popular in electronic transaction, publication, broadcasting, and other service applications (Li, Tan & Xie, 2002), so the Web is an increasingly important resource in numerous aspects of life (AbuAli & Abu-Addose, 2011). Since organizations have been realizing the possible implications of the Internet in their work (Aladwani & Palvia, 2002), Internet has become a key strategic weapon, which is particularly important considering today's competitive business environment (Davidavičienė & Tolvaišas, 2011). Using Internet as a Marketing tool is considerably less expensive than using other media, so web-based Marketing allows organizations to equally compete with each other, regardless the differences that may exist (Klassen, 2002). Considering the mentioned aspects, as well as the rapid pace development of digital and social technologies, research on this topic is fundamental nowadays. In fact, one of the research priorities identified by MSI for 2014-2016 is the evaluation of how digital, social and mobile technologies can be used and managed in order to obtain marketing advantages.

 Abstract—The purpose of this research was to determine the quality of smoked stingray (Dasyatis blekery). The fish were divided into two groups; then processed using corncob (CCLS) and coconut shells (CSLS) liquid smoke. All of smoked stingray samples were subjected to sensory and chemical analysis. Sensory analysis on both samples was no statistically different. On the other hand, the lysine availability was different either in the in the raw materials or smoked samples due to smoking process and duration of storage. Different liquid smoke and storage time gave significant effect to lysine availabilty (p<0,05). Both liquid smoke gave significant effect (p<0,05) to PV (CSLS = 2,816 meq/kg & CCLS = 2,195meq/kg) and TBA (CSLS = 109,685 mg malonaldehide/kg & CCLS = 45,169 mg malonaldehide/kg), but during storage this value were decrease as an effect of antioxidant activities of phenolic compounds consist in each liquid smoke. In contrast, pH values were increase. Both liquid smoke were able to apllied as a method of smoking fish.

Sensory Evaluation and Chemical Characteristics of Smoked Stingray (Dasyatis Blekeery) Processed by Using Two Different Liquid Smoke

The present study describes the variation in lipid components from 15 species of seaweeds belonging to the Chlorophyta, Ochrophyta, and Rhodophyta phyla collected in tropical (Indonesia) and temperate (Japan) areas. Analyses were performed of multiple components, including chlorophylls, carotenoids, n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and alpha tocopherol (α-Toc). Chlorophyll (Chl) and carotenoid contents varied among phyla, but not with the sampling location. Chl a and b were the major chlorophylls in Chlorophyta. Chl a and Chl c were the main chlorophylls in Ochrophyta, while Chl a was the dominant chlorophylls in Rhodophyta. β-Carotene and fucoxanthin were detected as major seaweed carotenoids. The former was present in all species in a variety of ranges, while the latter was mainly found in Ochrophyta and in small quantities in Rhodophyta, but not in Chlorophyta. The total lipids (TL) content and fatty acids composition were strongly affected by sampling location. The TL and n-3 PUFAs levels tended to be higher in temperate seaweeds compared with those in tropical seaweeds. The major n-3 PUFAs in different phyla, namely, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and stearidonic acid (SDA) in Ochrophyta, α-linolenic acid (ALA) and SDA in Chlorophyta, and EPA in Rhodophyta, accumulated in temperate seaweeds. Chlorophylls, their derivatives, and carotenoids are known to have health benefits, such as antioxidant activities, while n-3 PUFAs are known to be essential nutrients that positively influence human nutrition and health. Therefore, seaweed lipids could be used as a source of ingredients with health benefits for functional foods and nutraceuticals.

Fucoxanthin (Fx) is major carotenoids in brown algae. It showed many health beneficial effects for oxidative stress. Fucoxanthin is lower stability which may cause problem in the application for functional food. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of various heat processing on Fx, antioxidant activity (IC50), total phenolic content, and colour stability of Sargassum ilicifolium. The various heat processing methods showed were not significantly affected to fucoxanthin and antioxidant activities however all treatments lower affected to brown seaweeds colour. Moreover, this study showed a useful proved in the design of brown seaweeds processing which minimize Fx, antioxidant activity and colour changes.

Temuan penelitian mencakup, keberadaan para komunikator politik yang terdiri dari elite parpol dan calon anggota legislatif, partisipasi masyarakat dalam menggunakan hak suara, dan kualitas anggota legislatif hasil pemilihan umum. Ketiga temuan tersebut merupakan faktor mendasar pendukung keberhasilan pelaksanaan pemilihan umum yang menghasilkan anggota legislatif berkualitas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi kualitatif yang dititikberatkan pada penelusuran data yang berkaitan dengan pemilu legislatif.
