Palanquins of the Gods: Indigenous Theologies, Ritual Practice, and Complex Agency in the Western Indian Himalayas
TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that the institution of the moving rath is a major ritual arena where the deities are established as such complex agents, and they do so by documenting in detail and analysing the ritual handling of the shared rath of the goddess Hadimba and the god Manu Rsi, two well-known village deities in the Kullu Valley (Himachal Pradesh), otherwise known as 'The Valley of Gods'.

TL;DR: In the West Himalayan Kullu valley, local residents often associate the Kaliyug, the most horrible eon according to common textual descriptions of Hindu time, with the local goddess Hadimb?, whose demonic origins and current identification with the goddess K?l? perfectly fit the wild and violent character of the age as discussed by the authors.
