Global patterns of change and variation in sea surface temperature and chlorophyll a
Piers K. Dunstan,Scott D. Foster,Edward King,James S. Risbey,Terence J. O’Kane,Didier Monselesan,Alistair J. Hobday,Jason R. Hartog,Peter A. Thompson +8 more
TL;DR: Sources of global temporal variation in Sea Surface Temperature and Ocean Colour and their co-variation are investigated over a 14 year period using statistical methodologies that partition sources of variation into inter-annual and annual components and explicitly account for daily auto-correlation.
eReefs: An operational information system for managing the Great Barrier Reef
Andrew D. L. Steven,Mark E. Baird,Richard Brinkman,Nicholas J. Car,Simon Cox,Mike Herzfeld,Jonathan Hodge,Emlyn Jones,Edward King,N. Margvelashvili,Cedric Robillot,Barbara J. Robson,Thomas Schroeder,Jenny Skerratt,Sharon Tickell,Narendra Tuteja,Karen Wild-Allen,Yu Jonathan Jen-Wei +17 more
TL;DR: This communication briefly describes eReefs architecture and components and provides examples of applications that have been used to inform policy and management decisions, and finally discusses challenges and key learnings and considers future developments and applications.

Use of remote-sensing reflectance to constrain a data assimilating marine biogeochemical model of the Great Barrier Reef
Emlyn Jones,Mark E. Baird,Mathieu Mongin,John Parslow,Jenny Skerratt,Jenny Lovell,N. Margvelashvili,Richard J. Matear,Karen Wild-Allen,Barbara J. Robson,Farhan Rizwi,Peter R. Oke,Edward King,Thomas Schroeder,Andrew D. L. Steven,John Taylor +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the advantages of assimilating quantities calculated directly from the less error-prone satellite remote-sensing reflectance (RSR) to constrain the BGC model with a deterministic ensemble Kalman filter.
Bluelink ocean forecasting Australia: 15 years of operational ocean service delivery with societal, economic and environmental benefits
Andreas Schiller,Gary B. Brassington,Peter R. Oke,Madeleine Cahill,Prasanth Divakaran,Mikhail Entel,Justin Freeman,David Griffin,Mike Herzfeld,Ron Hoeke,Xinmei Huang,Emlyn Jones,Edward King,Barbra Parker,Tracey Pitman,Uwe Rosebrock,Jessica Sweeney,Andy Taylor,Marcus Thatcher,Robert Woodham,Aihong Zhong +20 more
TL;DR: The operational Australian Bluelink ocean forecast system is used to transform physical oceanographic observations into coherent analyses and predictions as mentioned in this paper, which form the basis for the Australian Ocean Forecast System.

A method for operational calibration of AVHRR reflective time series data
TL;DR: An automatic method to monitor the AVHRR instrument sensitivity over time in the short-wave reflective channels to ensure that trends in the data series obtained by this instrument are real and not sensor artefacts is developed.
