Endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis in rheumatoid arthritis: a multiparametric analysis using imaging techniques and laboratory markers of inflammation and autoimmunity.
György Kerekes,Zoltán Szekanecz,Henriett Dér,Zsuzsa Sándor,Gabriella Lakos,László Muszbek,Istvan Csipo,Sándor Sipka,Ildikó Seres,György Paragh,János Kappelmayer,Edit Szomják,Katalin Veres,Gyula Szegedi,Yehuda Shoenfeld,Pál Soltész +15 more
TL;DR: This was a well characterized rheumatoid arthritis population, where FMD and ccIMT were impaired, indicating early endothelial dysfunction and accelerated atherosclerosis, respectively.

Assessment of IgG antibodies to oxidized LDL in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Renáta Laczik,Peter Szodoray,Peter Szodoray,Katalin Veres,Edit Szomják,István Csípő,Sándor Sipka,Y Shoenfeld,Y Shoenfeld,Zoltán Szekanecz,Pál Soltész +10 more
TL;DR: The association of anti-oxLDL with unstable clinical complications may indicate the role of this antibody in plaque destabilization in patients with acute coronary syndrome and significantly decreased in response to statin therapy, independently of its lipid-lowering effect.

Plasma homocysteine levels, the prevalence of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene C677T polymorphism and macrovascular disorders in systemic sclerosis: Risk factors for accelerated macrovascular damage?
Szilvia Szamosi,Zoltán Csiki,Edit Szomják,Erzsebét Szolnoki,Gabriella Szőke,Zoltán Szekanecz,Gyula Szegedi,Yehuda Shoenfeld,Gabriella Szűcs +8 more
TL;DR: Elevated Hcy levels may be associated with disease duration and the evolution of macrovascular disorders and pulmonary hypertension in SSc, and the presence of MTHFR C677T mutation influences the incidence of Macrovascular abnormalities in S sc patients.
Evaluation of antibodies to oxidized low-density lipoprotein and assessment of C-reactive protein in acute coronary syndrome and stable coronary artery disease
Pál Soltész,Katalin Veres,Renáta Laczik,Henrietta Dér,Istvan Csipo,Orsolya Timár,Edit Szomják,Gyula Szegedi,Peter Szodoray +8 more
TL;DR: The findings support the notion that the presence of antibodies to oxLDL, a plaque-specific antigen, plays a major role as a predictor of complicated manifestations of acute coronary syndrome.

Polymorphism of clotting factors in Hungarian patients with Raynaud's phenomenon.
Amir-Houshang Shemirani,Edit Szomják,Emese Balogh,Csilla András,Dóra Kovács,Judit Ács,Zoltán Csiki +6 more
TL;DR: Patients with primary Raynaud's phenomenon may have a genetically determined risk for clotting factors that predispose them to aberrant microvascular thrombosis, and the prevalence of factor V substitution of G to A at position 1691, prothrombin G20210A, and methyltetrahydrofolate reductase C677T mutations in these patients was investigated.
