A novel cationic niosome formulation for gene delivery to the retina
Gustavo Puras,Mohamed Mashal,Jon Zarate,Mireia Agirre,Edilberto Ojeda,Santiago Grijalvo,Ramon Eritja,Ariadna Díaz-Tahoces,G. Martínez Navarrete,Marcelino Avilés-Trigueros,Eduardo Fernández,José Luis Pedraz +11 more
TL;DR: A novel niosome formulation based on the 2,3-di(tetradecyloxy)propan-1-amine cationic lipid combined with squalene and polysorbate 80 was elaborated to evaluate the transfection efficiency in rat retinas and successfully transfected HEK-293 and specially ARPE-19 cells, without affecting the viability.

The influence of the polar head-group of synthetic cationic lipids on the transfection efficiency mediated by niosomes in rat retina and brain
Edilberto Ojeda,Gustavo Puras,Mireia Agirre,Jon Zarate,Santiago Grijalvo,Ramon Eritja,Gema Martínez-Navarrete,Cristina Soto-Sánchez,Ariadna Díaz-Tahoces,Marcelino Avilés-Trigueros,Eduardo Fernández,José Luis Pedraz +11 more
TL;DR: Optimal niosome formulations prepared by oil-in water (o/w) and film-hydration techniques were characterized in terms of size, PDI, zeta potential, morphology and stability, which provide new insights for the development of non-viral vectors based on cationic lipids and their applications for efficient delivery of genetic material to the retina and brain.

Low Molecular Weight Chitosan (LMWC)-based Polyplexes for pDNA Delivery: From Bench to Bedside
TL;DR: The formation and characterization of LMWC based polyplexes, the in vitro transfection process and the in vivo applications of LMT-pDNA complexes for gene therapy purposes are described.
Niosomes based on synthetic cationic lipids for gene delivery: the influence of polar head-groups on the transfection efficiency in HEK-293, ARPE-19 and MSC-D1 cells.
Edilberto Ojeda,Gustavo Puras,Mireia Agirre,Jon Zarate,Santiago Grijalvo,Ramon Pons,Ramon Eritja,Gema Martínez-Navarrete,Cristina Soto-Sánchez,Eduardo Fernández,José Luis Pedraz +10 more
TL;DR: Only niosomes based on cationic lipids with a dimethyl amino head group (lipid 3) showed a transfection capacity when compared with their counterparts amino and tripeptide head-groups.
