A band stop filter is provided for a lead wire of an active medical device (AMD). The band stop filter includes a capacitor in parallel with an inductor. The parallel capacitor and inductor are placed in series with the lead wire of the AMD, wherein values of capacitance and inductance are selected such that the band stop filter is resonant at a selected frequency. The Q of the inductor may be relatively maximized and the Q of the capacitor may be relatively minimized to reduce the overall Q of the band stop filter to attenuate current flow through the lead wire along a range of selected frequencies. In a preferred form, the band stop filter is integrated into a TIP and/or RING electrode for an active implantable medical device.

A system, and method for using magnetic resonance imaging to increase the accuracy of electro-physiologic procedures is disclosed. The system in its preferred embodiment provides an invasive combined electro-physiologic, an imaging antenna catheter (1) which includes an RF antenna (3) for receiving MR signals, and diagnostic electrodes (11) for receiving electrical potentials. The combined electrophysiology, and imaging antenna catheter (1) is used in combination with an MR imaging scanner to guide, to provide visualization during electro-physiologic diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

A patient positioning system for use with a radiation therapy system that monitors the location of fixed and movable components and pre-plans movement of the movable components so as to inhibit movement if a collision would be indicated. The positioning system can also coordinate movement of multiple movable components for reduced overall latency in registering a patient. The positioning system includes external measurement devices which measure the location and orientation of objects, including components of the radiation therapy system, in space and can also monitor for intrusion into the active area of the therapy system by personnel or foreign objects to improve operational safety of the radiation therapy system.

A local coil for magnetic resonance imaging of the breast employs two generally cylindrical coils isolated from each other by a radio frequency shield. The coils comprise multiple loops displaced along the axis of the cylinder and connected in parallel to provide uniform coverage of the volume. Coils may be activated individually or at the same time with their signals combined. In the former case, the non-activated coil is actively decoupled by stimulating its decoupling circuit network with a DC bias signal from the system. The activated coil decouples passively during transmit.

To avoid mutual interference between a radio-frequency excitation coil (10) and a measurement coil, a measurement coil is provided with a decoupling circuit (36) with which the tuned circuit of which the coil (13) forms part is tuned to a significantly higher natural frequency during activation of the excitation coil (10). On the other hand the excitation coil (10) is shorted during detection with the surface coil (13) by a low-ohmic shorting circuit (72), thereby avoiding interference with the radio-frequency measurements signals.
