Surface-electronic structure of alpha -like Ce compounds.
TL;DR: In all cases studied, strong changes of the 4{ital f} electronic structure at the surface towards a more localized {gamma}-like behavior are observed, requiring a reanalysis of previously reported photoemission spectra of {alpha}- like Ce compounds.

Surface core-level shift of 4f states for Tb(0001).
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the larger values of δ 1 reported previously for polycrystalline samples originate from contributions of low-coordinated surface sites, and that the improved understanding of the surface electronic structure of rare-earth metals is improved.

3d → 4f resonant photoemission in rare earth systems
TL;DR: In this paper, 3d → 4f resonant photoemission (PE) data are presented for Sm and Gd metal as well as for the intermetallic compounds CeAl2, EuPd3, TmAl2 and YbAl2.

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed high-resolution electron spectroscopic investigation of the NiS and related Se-substituted compounds was performed, and the evolution of the spectral function with decreasing temperature was characterized by a continuous depletion of the single-particle spectral weight at the Fermi energy and the development of a gap-like structure below a characteristic temperature, providing evidence for a metal-insulator crossover behavior at the surfaces of these compounds.
