Assessment of potential improvements on regional air quality modelling related with implementation of a detailed methodology for traffic emission estimation
Margarida C. Coelho,Tânia Fontes,Jorge M. Bandeira,Sérgio Ramos Pereira,Oxana Tchepel,Daniela Dias,E. Sá,Jorge Humberto Amorim,Carlos Borrego +8 more
TL;DR: The results obtained suggest that with the combination of the top-down and bottom-up approaches to emission estimation several improvements in the air quality results can be achieved, mainly for PM10, CO and O3.

Urban scale air quality modelling using detailed traffic emissions estimates
Carlos Borrego,Jorge Humberto Amorim,Oxana Tchepel,Daniela Dias,Sandra Rafael,E. Sá,Cláudia Pimentel,Tânia Fontes,Paulo Fernandes,Sebastian Rafael Dias Pereira,Jorge M. Bandeira,Margarida C. Coelho +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the atmospheric dispersion of NO x and PM10 was simulated with a second generation Gaussian model over a medium-size south-European city using GPS data.

Impact of forest fires on particulate matter and ozone levels during the 2003, 2004 and 2005 fire seasons in Portugal
V. Martins,Ana Isabel Miranda,Ana Amélia Amorim Carvalho,Martijn Schaap,Carlos Borrego,E. Sá +5 more
TL;DR: Hourly concentration results have been compared to measure data at several monitoring locations with better modeling quality parameters when forest fire emissions were considered, showing the importance and the influence of this type of emissions on air quality.

A cost-efficiency and health benefit approach to improve urban air quality
Ana Isabel Miranda,Joana Ferreira,Carlos Silveira,Helder Relvas,Laura Duque,Peter Roebeling,Myriam Lopes,Solange Costa,Alexandra Monteiro,Carla Gama,E. Sá,Carlos Borrego,João Paulo Teixeira +12 more
TL;DR: Research outcomes confirm that the MAPLIA system is useful for policy decision support on air quality improvement strategies, and could be applied to other urban areas where AQP need to be implemented and monitored.

Meteorological driven changes on air quality over Portugal: a KZ filter application
TL;DR: In this article, the influence of meteorology on O 3, NO 2 and PM10 levels and the long-term air quality trends was investigated. And the authors highlighted that the KZ filter is a useful tool to support the design and implementation of adequate air quality strategies and for the investigation of the interactions between the emissions, the meteorological conditions and the air quality levels, to improve air quality management in these two urban areas.
