Diamond-like carbon coatings for biomedical applications
E. Mitura,Stanislaw Mitura,Piotr Niedzielski,Z. Has,R. Wolowiec,Andrzej Jakubowski,Jan Szmidt,Aleksandra Sokołowska,Petr Louda,Jan Marciniak,Bogdan Koczy +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the results of experimental studies on amorphous diamond carbon layers obtained by a new method of r.f. dense plasma chemical vapour deposition onto orthopaedic pins and screws are presented.

The properties of carbon layers deposited onto titanium substrates
E. Mitura,A. Niedzielska,Piotr Niedzielski,Leszek Klimek,A. Rylski,Stanislaw Mitura,Jacek Moll,W. Pietrzykowski +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a thin, hard, amorphous carbon layers, deposited using a dense r.f. methane plasma onto titanium substrates, were investigated, including an examination of the interface between the carbon layer and the substrate and optimization of the process and its application.

Comparison of the surface structure of carbon films deposited by different methods
Piotr Niedzielski,E. Mitura,Stanislaw Mitura,M. Dłużniewski,P. Przymusiala,S. Der Sahaguian,E. Staryga,Jerzy Zak,Aleksandra Sokołowska,Jan Szmidt,Andrei Stanishevsky,Jacek Moll,J.A. Moll +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, atomic force microscopy is used to estimate and compare surface morphology of the carbon coatings, prepared using radio frequency plasma chemical vapor deposition, pulsed cathodic are discharge, ion-beam deposition and hot-filament chemical vapor extraction.

The properties of diamond-like carbon layers deposited onto SiO2 aerogel
TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of diamond-like carbon (DLC) on the mechanical strength of a SiO 2 aerogel-SiO 2 polysilicon system is discussed.

Inertness of diamond - truth or false
S. Mitura,K. Bakowicz,Piotr Niedzielski,E. Mitura,A. Karczemska,A. Sokolowska,J. Szmidt,John Hassard +7 more
- 26 Jun 2001
TL;DR: Experiments conclude that diamond powder has antioxidant properties in blood plasma, prooxidant properties in the chain reactions with linolenic acid, and NCD coating is an ideal biomaterial for medical implants because its biological, chemical and physical properties are the best among all biomaterials.
