CoxNi1 x alloy nanowires with varying Co content (0 x 0:95), having a diameter of 130 nm and length of around 20 m, are synthesized by template-assisted electrodeposition into the nanopores of SiO2 conformal coated hard-anodic aluminum oxide membranes. The magneto-structural properties of both single isolated nanowires and hexagonally ordered nanowire arrays of Co‐Ni alloys are systematically studied by means of magneto-optical Kerr effect magnetometry and vibrating sample magnetometry, respectively, allowing us to compare different alloy compositions and to distinguish between the magnetostatic and magnetocrystalline contributions to the effective magnetic anisotropy for each system. The excellent tunable soft magnetic properties and magnetic bistability exhibited by low Co content Co‐Ni nanowires indicate that they might become the material of choice for the development of nanostructured magnetic systems and devices as an alternative to Fe‐Ni alloy based systems, being chemically more robust. Furthermore, Co contents higher than 51 at.% allow us to modify the magnetic behavior of Co-rich nanowires by developing well controlled magnetocrystalline anisotropy, which is desirable for data storage applications. Tuning the magnetic anisotropy of Co-Ni nanowires: comparison between single nanowires and nanowire arrays in hard-anodic aluminum oxide membranes

Magnetization reversal in Co‐base nanowire arrays

The preparation of magnetic nanopillars from anodic alumina templates represents a cheap way to obtain extensive ordered arrays, and thus is very appealing for nanotechnology applications. In this paper we report the preparation of arrays of Co nanopillars with 120 nm height and varying diameter. The high anisotropy of Co offers an additional possibility to control their magnetic properties. The magnetic properties of arrays of Co nanopillars are studied both experimentally and by micromagnetic simulations. Experiment and modeling show crucial changes of hysteresis loops when the diameter is increased. Magnetic data are interpreted considering the change of crystalline structure as well as the influence of geometry. The micromagnetic simulations explain the measured magnetic properties by the role of magnetocrystalline anisotropy and the combined influence of the shape anisotropy and the interactions. They also show the change in the reversal mode with the increased diameter from vortex propagation to curling when the field is applied parallel to the nanopillar axis, and from coherent rotation to curling when it is applied perpendicular.

Electrospinning preparation, characterization and magnetic properties of cobalt–nickel ferrite (Co1−xNixFe2O4) nanofibers

Magnetic properties of Fe nanoparticles with different sizes synthesized by a physical deposition technique have been investigated experimentally. We have used a high pressure sputtering technique to deposit iron nanoparticles on a silicon substrate. The nanoparticles are then analyzed using atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and superconducting quantum interference device techniques. TEM and AFM data show that the particle size could be tuned by adjusting the deposition conditions. The magnetic properties have been investigated from temperature dependent magnetization M(T) and field dependent magnetization M(H) measurements. The results show that two phases including both ferromagnetic and superparamagnetic particles are present in our system. From these data we extracted the superparamagnetic critical size to be 9 nm for our samples. Magnetic properties of iron nanoparticle

We report on the magnetic properties and the crystallographic structure of the cobalt nanowire arrays as a function of their nanoscale dimensions. X-ray diffraction measurements show the appearance of an in-plane hcp-Co phase for nanowires with 50 nm diameter, suggesting a partial reorientation of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy axis along the membrane plane with increasing pore diameter. No significant changes in the magnetic behavior of the nanowire system are observed with decreasing temperature, indicating that the effective magnetoelastic anisotropy does not play a dominant role in the remagnetization processes of individual nanowires. An enhancement of the total magnetic anisotropy is found at room temperature with a decreasing nanowire diameter-to-length ratio $(d/L)$, a result that is quantitatively analyzed on the basis of a simplified shape anisotropy model.
