In this paper, ensemble models are developed to accurately forecast software reliability. Various statistical (multiple linear regression and multivariate adaptive regression splines) and intelligent techniques (backpropagation trained neural network, dynamic evolving neuro-fuzzy inference system and TreeNet) constitute the ensembles presented. Three linear ensembles and one non-linear ensemble are designed and tested. Based on the experiments performed on the software reliability data obtained from literature, it is observed that the non-linear ensemble outperformed all the other ensembles and also the constituent statistical and intelligent techniques.

Software reliability growth model (SRGM) with modified testing-effort function (TEF) is a function to evaluate and foresee the parameters of the data. Reliability of software is portrayed as the distinct possibility that for a predefined time, a software package will continue to run on an advance domain without frustration. SRGM utilized a few optimization procedure algorithms to advance the parameters by bifurcating them into a few stages however to upgrade the technique by using all of the parameters at the same time, the algorithm utilized is the chaotic grey wolf optimization algorithm (CGWO). CGWO is an advanced heuristic system for portraying the execution by achieving complex parameter optimization and designing application issues. Different parametric reliabilities rely upon the attributes or characteristics of the data. The parameters are predicted using the Pham–Zhang (PZ) model. Tandem computer software dataset DS1 and DS2 are used to compare the predicted parameter of SRGM obtained by Pham–Zhang (PZ) model using testing effort functions (TEFs) based on the evaluation metrics mean square error (MSE), relative error (RE) and coefficient of determination (R2). To enhance the reliability of SRGM, the parameters of SRGM estimated using TEF and enhanced using chaotic maps to improve search performance. By using the constrained benchmark functions the results of chaotic maps are obtained. Based on the chaotic graph results, the Chebyshev graph shows a good convergence rate of 78%. Overall, 86% of the results revealed an association between the choice variable and fitness criteria for CGWO. In the SRGM using CGWO, the expected result is completely mechanized and does not require any client necessity.

We extract Two new SRGM datasets, the largest in the literature.We find fractal state-space attractors in 3 of our 4 datasets.RBFN and fractional ARIMA models forecast those 3 datasets equally well. Software reliability growth models attempt to forecast the future reliability of a software system, based on observations of the historical occurrences of failures. This allows management to estimate the failure rate of the system in field use, and to set release criteria based on these forecasts. However, the current software reliability growth models have never proven to be accurate enough for widespread industry use. One possible reason is that the model forms themselves may not accurately capture the underlying process of fault injection in software; it has been suggested that fault injection is better modeled as a chaotic process rather than a random one. This possibility, while intriguing, has not yet been evaluated in large-scale, modern software reliability growth datasets.We report on an analysis of four software reliability growth datasets, including ones drawn from the Android and Mozilla open-source software communities. These are the four largest software reliability growth datasets we are aware of in the public domain, ranging from 1200 to over 86,000 observations. We employ the methods of nonlinear time series analysis to test for chaotic behavior in these time series; we find that three of the four do show evidence of such behavior (specifically, a multifractal attractor). Finally, we compare a deterministic time series forecasting algorithm against a statistical one on both datasets, to evaluate whether exploiting the apparent chaotic behavior might lead to more accurate reliability forecasts.
