The Rotifera Fauna of Gala Lake (Edirne-turkey)

Investigations were undertaken during 2010-2011 to study effect of human induced land degradation on structure of some halophytic plant communities. Over all 183 taxa of vascular plant were recorded. Out of these 76 were of typical halophytes. The dominant plant taxa were; Phragmites australis, Halimione portulacoides and Bolboschoenus maritimus. The threatened categories of these taxa were identified from the Red Data Book of Turkey together with their distribution. The impact of degradation on the habitats due to land use for agriculture, organic and inorganic waste disposal and housing for tourisitc purposes were identified and conservation measures were outlined in this study.

Land degradation and halophytic plant diversity of milleyha wetland ecosystem (samandağ-hatay), turkey

A floristic study of the Yildiz Mountains Biosphere Project was undertaken between May and October 2009. The project area is located in the north-eastern part of European Turkey, within flora square A1-A2 (E) (Kirklareli), and covers about 1300 km2. The list of vascular plants was prepared mainly based on specimens collected during the flora surveys of the Project and supplemented by earlier gathered specimens kept in the EDTU, ISTE, and ISTO herbaria. In the project area 1315 taxa, belonging to 505 genera and 113 families, were determined. Among these, 18 taxa are Pteridophytes, 4 Gymnospermae, 1035 Dicotyledones, and 258 Monocotyledones. The 3 largest families are Compositae (153 taxa; 11.5%), Leguminosae (119 taxa; 9.1%), and Graminae (102 taxa; 7.9%). The richest genus is Trifolium (62 taxa). Among the more significant finds of this floristic survey of the research area are 15 endemic taxa for Turkey and 29 taxa that are not recorded in the Asiatic part of Turkey, a new species for plant science (Allium rumelicum M.Kocyigit & N.Ozhatay), 3 new records for Turkey (Allium saxatile M.Bieb., Anthoxanthum aristatum Boiss., and Elatine triandra Schkuhr), and 8 new records for European Turkey.

The flora of Yıldız Mountains (Kırklareli) Biosphere Project area

This study was carried out for to contribute to the flora of Istranca (Yildiz) Mountains Iying from northwest to southeast on the north of Thrace Region between 1996-1997. The study area is placed in A1 (E) square in grid system adopted DAVIS and in Euro-Siberian phytogeographical region. According to the results of this study; 321 taxa belonging to 219 genera and 65 families were recorded. Among these taxa, there are 4 Pteridophytes and 317 Spermatophytes (253 Dicotyledones and 64 Monocotyledones). The largest families are as follows: Poaceae 38 taxa (11.83%), Asteraceae 35 taxa (10.90%) and Lamiaceae 21 taxa (6.54%). The distribution of the taxa according to the phytogeographical regions is as follows: Euro-Siberian: 24.92%; Meditteranean: 8.09%; East Mediterranean: 3.73; Euxine: 2.18; Irano-Turanian: 0.93%; Hyrcano-Euxine: 0.31% and unknown: 59.81%. 10 of total taxa (3.11%) are cosmopolitan whilst 2 are endemic (0.62%). 9 of total taxa are new records for Thrace Region, whilst 5 are for A1 square.

One more Allium species for the Turkish flora: Allium saxatile

The flora of the lakes and marshy places inThrace (Turkey: A1,A2 (E)) has been investigated and a total of 180 taxa belonging to 48 families has been recorded. Out of these 31 taxa are recorded for the first time from these areas. The aquatic flora and vegetation of West Anatolia (squares B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, C3 according to the grid squares system of Davis) have recently been investigated in detail by SeSmen & Leblebici (1984). The aquatic flora and vegetation of Thrace have been studied during the years of 1984-1987. The plants collected from this area, covering the squares A1, A2 (E), are given in this article. The map of the area under investigation is shown on Fig. 1. Twenty lakes and marshy habitats were studied and 180 taxa belonging to 48 families collected. Out of these, 31 taxa are recorded for the first time from these areas. Davis (1965-1985, 1975), Donner (1985, 1987) and Huber-Morath (1987, 1988) have been used as standard works of reference; the sequence of taxa within a given family is followed as given by Davis (1965-85).
