TL;DR: The department now proposes that women may be prescribed these newer oral contraceptives provided that they are “fully informed” and the new package insert will include a statement that the risk of deep venous thrombosis is 15 per 100 000 among women using second generation pills and 25 per 100000 among users of third generation pills.
