Resumo: Nas areas protegidas da Amazonia, o extrativismo de Produtos Florestais Nao Madeireiros (PFNMs) e uma das atividades economicas mais relevantes para o bem-estar das comunidades e para a conservacao in situ da agrobiodiversidade. Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar as atuais praticas de manejo e de comercializacao dos PFNMs na Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentavel do Uatuma, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com 23 unidades familiares e 7 revendedores locais de produtos regionais. Para avaliacao do potencial de comercializacao, as seguintes variaveis foram consideradas: abundância de PFNMs disponiveis, interesse das familias, praticas de uso e de manejo, custo de producao, produtividade e rentabilidade. Dos 24 PFNMs coletados pelas familias, houve maior representatividade nos produtos alimenticios. Com base em 9 indicadores de potencialidade, os 6 PFNMs com maior frequencia de comercializacao foram avaliados. A oferta e a demanda mostraram-se como variaveis determinantes em todos os PFNMs, e o custo da mao de obra mostrou-se como o fator de maior impacto no custo de producao. Os PFNMs sao recursos que contribuem, principalmente, para a seguranca alimentar das familias. E recomendada a intensificacao do manejo da copaiba (Copaifera L.), sobretudo para a obtencao de oleo de resina, produto mais bem avaliado pelas unidades familiares e com demanda regional crescente, segundo os revendedores.

Advances in Brazil Nut Tree Ecophysiology: Linking Abiotic Factors to Tree Growth and Fruit Production

This study discusses the population structure and management potential of Brazil nut in two Amazonian regions (Acre and Amapá). We surveyed density, diameter distribution, and canopy variables. Diameter of 1.3m soil (DAP), crown form and position, presence of vines and reproductive status were evaluated for each Brazil nut tree (dbh ≥ 10 cm) in 9 ha permanent plots. In each State, we surveyed six plots, totaling 108 ha. The density and distribution of individuals in diameter class were determined by region and within each region (sites). In total, 610 Brazil nut trees were mapped: 124 in Alto Acre and 486 in Alto Cajari. In Alto Cajari Brazil nut tree density was four times higher than in Alto Acre. Alto Cajari had Brazil nut trees with better features for fruit production as crown form and position, as well as lower incidence of vines in the crowns. In terms of population structure, Sororoca had recent problems with Brazil nut trees regeneration or change of natural regeneration dynamics over time, perhaps because it is an area of savanna-forest transition. Both regions (Alto Acre e Alto Cajari) showed Brazil nut stands with a good potential for management. However, there were specific needs for silvicultural treatments. Sororoca (AP) needs to improve recruitment of new Brazil nut trees and Filipinas (AC) is in need of vine cutting.

A castanheira (Bertholletia excelsa) é uma espécie símbolo da Amazônia devido sua exuberante beleza e importância sócio-econômica, pela produção da castanha-do-brasil. A produção dessa castanha apreciada internacionalmente é oriunda quase que exclusivamente de castanhais nativos, os quais passam por constante ameaça devido ao desmatamento. Nesse cenário, castanhais cultivados podem ser uma alternativa para o reflorestamento de áreas degradadas, recomposição de reserva legal ou de cultivos em sistemas integrados de produção. Para isso, é necessário o plantio de mudas de elevada qualidade genética, proveniente de plantas matrizes previamente selecionadas. Apesar da produção de mudas de castanheira já estar bem descrito na literatura, ainda há problemas quanto à desuniformidade na emergência das sementes. Neste trabalho serão apresentados resultados de tempo de germinação de sementes de matrizes de castanheiras selecionadas devido sua elevada produção de frutos e a eficiência na produção das mudas.
