TL;DR: It is reported that CaM can be replaced by the neuronal calcium sensor NCS-1 both in vitro and in vivo and represents a novel protein capable of mediating multiple Ca(2+)-signaling pathways in the nervous system.

Regulation of rhodopsin phosphorylation by a family of neuronal calcium sensors
TL;DR: The cloning of three novel NCS genes is reported, and it is demonstrated that at least six distinct members of the NCS family specifically inhibit rhodopsin phosphorylation, suggesting a general role for NCS proteins in the regulation of calcium-dependentosphorylation in the nervous system.

Olfaction in birds: differential embryonic expression of nine putative odorant receptor genes in the avian olfactory system
TL;DR: The results suggest that, in addition to their role as putative odorant receptors, some COR may play a role in the development of the avian olfactory system.
