Corrigendum to “BMP-silk composite matrices heal critically sized femoral defects” [Bone 41 (2007) 247–255]
Carl A. Kirker-Head,Vassilis Karageorgiou,Vassilis Karageorgiou,Sandra Hofmann,Sandra Hofmann,Roberto J. Fajardo,O. Betz,Hans P. Merkle,Monika Hilbe,B. von Rechenberg,J. McCool,L. Abrahamsen,Ara Nazarian,E. Cory,M. Curtis,David L. Kaplan,Lorenz Meinel +16 more
TL;DR: This poster presents a probabilistic procedure to characterize the architecture of the connective tissue of the spleen and its role in musculoskeletal disorders.

Shortcomings of DXA to assess changes in bone tissue density and microstructure induced by metabolic bone diseases in rat models.
TL;DR: Ovariectomy does not affect the structural and mechanical properties of cortical bone material, but partial nephrectomy does adversely affect these properties, and micro-CT provides an accurate measurement of the changes in both equivalent bone tissue mineral density and microstructure for cancellous and cortical bone.
Silk based biomaterials to heal critical sized femur defects.
Lorenz Meinel,Lorenz Meinel,Lorenz Meinel,O. Betz,Roberto J. Fajardo,Sandra Hofmann,Sandra Hofmann,Ara Nazarian,E. Cory,Monika Hilbe,J. McCool,Robert Langer,Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic,Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic,Hans P. Merkle,Brigitte von Rechenberg,David L. Kaplan,Carl A. Kirker-Head +17 more
TL;DR: The pdHMSC/SS implants demonstrated osteogenic ability in vitro and capacity to thrive towards the healing of critical size femoral segmental defects in vivo and provide an alternative protein-based biomaterial for load bearing applications.
Specimen size and porosity can introduce error into μCT-based tissue mineral density measurements
Roberto J. Fajardo,E. Cory,Nipun Patel,Ara Nazarian,Andres Laib,Rajaram K. Manoharan,Rajaram K. Manoharan,James E. Schmitz,James E. Schmitz,Jeremy M. DeSilva,Laura MacLatchy,Brian D. Snyder,Brian D. Snyder,Brian D. Snyder,Mary L. Bouxsein +14 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that object size, structure, and BHC algorithm can influence microCT measurements of rho(m), which must be interpreted with caution unless appropriate steps are taken to minimize these potential artifacts.
BMP-silk composite matrices heal critically sized femoral defects
Carl A. Kirker-Head,Vassilis Karageorgiou,Sandra Hofmann,Sandra Hofmann,Roberto J. Fajardo,O. Betz,Hans P. Merkle,Monika Hilbe,B. von Rechenberg,J. McCool,L. Abrahamsen,Ara Nazarian,E. Cory,M. Curtis,David L. Kaplan,Lorenz Meinel,Lorenz Meinel,Lorenz Meinel +17 more
TL;DR: The data imply the clinical potential of silk scaffolds and rhBMP-2 as composite osteopromotive implants when used alone or with select stem cell populations, and additional studies in larger species are now warranted.
