Sex steroids levels in the plasma and testis during the reproductive cycle of lizard Podarcis s. sicula Raf.
S. Andò,Gaetano Ciarcia,M. L. Panno,E. Imbrogno,G. Tarantino,M. Buffone,E Beraldi,Francesco Angelini,Virgilio Botte +8 more
TL;DR: There is an apparent separation of plasma and testicular androgen concentrations during the reproductive cycle in oviparous lizard Podarcis s.

Influence of thyroid hormone on androgen metabolism in peripuberal rat Sertoli cells
M. L. Panno,E Beraldi,Vincenzo Pezzi,M Salerno,G. De Luca,Marilena Lanzino,M Le Pera,Diego Sisci,M. Prati,S. Palmero,E Bolla,E Fugassa,Sebastiano Andò +12 more
TL;DR: The most striking finding in the Sertoli cells of 3-week-old hypothyroid rats was the dramatic enhancement of oestradiol formation which persisted to a lesser extent 1 week later.

Plasma sex hormone concentrations during the reproductive cycle in the male lizard, Podarcis s. sicula.
Sebastiano Andò,M. L. Panno,Gaetano Ciarcia,E. Imbrogno,M. Buffone,E Beraldi,Diego Sisci,Francesco Angelini,Virgilio Botte +8 more
TL;DR: In intact animals, progesterone and oestradiol exhibited peak values during the refractory period after the mating season, and in castrated animals, however, testosterone and androstenedione persisted conspicuously in the plasma during the breeding period, suggesting that adrenal sex steroid output may change during the annual reproductive cycle.

Progesterone, 17-OH-progesterone, androstenedione and testosterone plasma levels in spermatic venous blood of normal men and varicocele patients.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the reduced spermatic levels of testosterone in varicoceles are due to the enzymatic impairment of testosterone biosynthesis, concerning firstly 17-20 lyase activity and secondly 17-alpha-hydroxylase activity, which is age related.

Physiological changes in androgen plasma levels with elapsing of time from castration in adult male rats.
Sebastiano Andò,S. Aquila,E Beraldi,Marcello Canonaco,Maria Luisa Panno,Antonella Valenti,F. Dessì-Fulgheri +6 more
TL;DR: The data show that five days following orchiectomy (group II) delta 4, T and DHT were decreased with respect to sham-operated rats, while eleven weeks after all steroids were significantly decreased withrespect to the values observed in sham- operated rats.
