Algorithms and numerical results for finite element approximations of contact problems with non-classical friction laws
J. T. Oden,E. B. Pires +1 more
TL;DR: This paper represents a continuation of the earlier studies into the numerical analysis of contact problems with non-classical friction laws and presents a new approach to this problem using LaSalle's inequality.

Numerical analysis of certain contact problems in elasticity with non-classical friction laws
J. T. Oden,E. B. Pires +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an algorithm for the numerical analysis of a highly nonlinear variational inequality encountered in the study of contact problems with non-classical friction laws is described, and numerical results obtained for a representative example problem are given.

Error estimates for the approximation of a class of variational inequalities arising in unilateral problems with friction
E. B. Pires,J. T. Oden +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a general approximation theorem useful in obtaining order of convergence estimates for the approximation of the solution of a class of variational inequalities that characterize the Signorini problem with non-local friction is presented.

Finite element methods for nonlinear elastostatic problems in rubber elasticity
J. T. Oden,Eric B. Becker,T. Miller,T. Endo,E. B. Pires +4 more
- 01 Mar 1983
TL;DR: In this article, a number of finite element methods for the analysis of nonlinear problems in rubber elasticity are outlined, including the augmented Lagrangian method, continuation or incremental loading methods, and associated Riks-type methods which have the capability of incorporating limit point behavior and bifurcations.
