Emerging harmful algal bloom species over the last four decades in China
TL;DR: Expansions of these HABs species along the coastline of China have occurred over the last four decades and, due to the projected global changes in the climate and marine environments and other anthropological activities, there is potential for the emergence of new types of Habs in China in the future.

Exploration of resting cysts (stages) and their relevance for possibly HABs-causing species in China.
Ying Zhong Tang,Haifeng Gu,Zhaohui Wang,Dongyan Liu,Yan Wang,Douding Lu,Zhangxi Hu,Yunyan Deng,Lixia Shang,Yuzao Qi +9 more
TL;DR: Studies on the cyst-pertinent processes and genetic basis of resting cyst dormancy not only revealed the regulating patterns of some environmental factors in cyst formation and germination, but also identified many characteristically active or inactive metabolic pathways, differentially expressed genes, and the possibly vital regulating function of the phytohormone abscisic acid and a group of molecular chaperones in resting cysts.

The effect of temperature and salinity on growth rate and azaspiracid cell quotas in two strains of Azadinium poporum (Dinophyceae) from Puget Sound, Washington State.
Xinfeng Dai,Xinfeng Dai,Brian D. Bill,Nicolaus G. Adams,Urban Tillmann,Catherine A. Sloan,Douding Lu,Vera L. Trainer +7 more
TL;DR: The potential of local A. poporum to adapt to and grow in a wide range of temperature and salinity may open future windows for blooms and provide the basis for a more accurate estimation of risk for azaspiracid poisoning in Puget Sound shellfish.
